Lady t Shirt 10 baht
Man t shirt 15 baht
Shorts 20 baht
Underwear/boxers 10 baht
Long sleeved shirt 20 baht
Trousers 30 bahtComment

OK for tourists but in 3rd Road area places charge 500 baht for 80 pieces.
My favorite tourist laundry is next to the Kingfisher where they spray the clothes with a scent that's really great. I'd bring the clothes back home and be reminded of Thailand when I put them on.Comment

Me too...(daveduke007 @ Jun. 25 2008,13:37) Mai pen rai, I will be staying somewhere else now
I spent last weekend there...
When I checked in they demanded 1000 baht deposit...That was in addition to prepaying for the room or both nights (I had stayed there just two weeks prior with no deposit)...
Reluctantly I gave them a 1000 baht note...When I checked out they returned nine 100 baht notes and five 20 baht notes in a nice little black holder like the restaurants use...They expected a tip...I collected my deposit smiled and left...And now I won't return...Not they they will care..."It's not Gay if you beat them up afterwards." --- AnonComment

Hi Kahuna...
I have written to the owner of the hotel about your comments and have suggested a solution that may help us all out.
Dr Kim is usually pretty accommodating for us and I'll wait to see what he says about this.
He is very aware of the impact that message boards have and uses them quite vigorously to round up custom.

in my pattaya days I stayed in this hotel many times always paying the deposit and room amount . (deposit amount depending on room and how long you stayed). I never saw this as a problem because I always got my deposit back. ( in 1000 bath notes). And giving a tip depends on you. I always do unless someone behaves very rude. Of course you can choose a hotel by internet using a credit card like I did too and become victim of a nice scam.
This hotel never asks credit card details in advance or if you don't show up a one day room rent. Go to bangkok and try to find the same. Good luck. Some hotels even let you pay by credit card in advance and ask a security amount as an extra. ( which you get back of course but is far higher than Bay Resort)
The only bad thing is the restaurant. The owner should close that part.
Also if 1000 bath deposit is such a problem for you I would stay at home or do a real budget holiday instead. Might be a better idea than nagging about a deposit or being forced to almost give a tip ( which I doubt by the way)

oh dear, oh dear,
When I read all this moaning about this big deposit the Bay resort asks I think: Is this important. I.m.h.o. no it is not.
If you go on a holiday then go and not moan about little things like this. Is this is important for a specific guest then I only advice that guest he should stay home. Rent a dvd and have fun with that.
Of course the old dinosaurs among the readers, like our Duke, perhaps remember the good old days in Pattaya. The days everybody there was waiting untill these boys returned but these days are over. Money, especially Russian, rules the world now boys and these hotels adapt. Pattaya changes, not to its best but that is life old Frank would say.
And it is not only bay resort that asks this now. Ben stayed at the Bay and also in Areca lodge last january. Well, also there he was kindly asked a deposit (i stayed 4 days in each) of 2000 baht. Key money Areca manager explained smiling from ear to ear. But in both hotels I got it back(in 1000bahts notes).

Any hotel that asks for room prepayment has just reduced their incentive to deliver good service during your stay. That tells me something about that hotel, and I will look for another.
If they have my cc pre-authorised, why do they need to take a deposit? I am not sure what has changed to make hotels start doing this?
Areca Lodge fucked me on this last year. Took me 4 months to get my money back. PBR asked me for deposit when I arrived the first time I stayed there......and, because of that, the only time I have stayed thereMister ArseComment

Just read your post. If I understand you correctly any hotel that asks a prepayment: stinks.
So, Marriott in Bangkok, where this is common: stinks
??
Come on, not nagg. If you have to go on budget just stay home. That is cheaper

Stinks? Your words not mine. All I said was, IMHO, that tells me something, and I will stay somewhere else if I have the choice.
Budget? You have misunderstood my point (and I think Kahuna's) so badly it is just funny
I would actually be interested if there is somehere here from the hotel business than can explain the reasoning behind this??Mister ArseComment
