Pattaya is a very big place and you might have a couple of bars walking distance but that means all the others aren't.

You can walk to soi 13/1 where Stringfellows and 131 are in about 15-20 minutes. I know I did it yesterday. However there is the free tuk tuk to second road from the hotel and then you can grab a baht bus which would reduce that time to less than 10 minutes.

Walking street is slightly closer and so about 10 minutes but then another couple of minutes to Blue Ice, JSB and Litas bar. You need to get a baht bus to get to Goldfingers on soi 7 or Hi Boss on soi 6.

Found a couple of annoying points about the hotel. One is no in house laundry service. They do offer to take it for you to their preferred laundry provider though but housekeeping will not come to collect it. You have to take it to reception. Yes minor point but annoying.

Also yesterday I noticed some blue spots on one of the towels when I went to take a shower. I did not really give it much of a second thought until I got handed a bill for 450 baht from reception for their damaged towel I tried to reason with them and say I did not do it but that is how it was when I got it but they would not listen.

Not a lot of money but if I did not do it so why should I pay for it. I also then noticed some blue spots on my sheets so tried to show them that maybe it was something to do with their laundry as it was on other things also. Still want me to pay the bill.

Now I am just waiting for them to charge me for the sheets

Like you say, it's not the money its the principal.

I had a similar problem in Phuket at easter time....

Stayed at a nice little boutique Gay hotel in Paradise...
was accused by the manager of some serious brown stains on the towels....  

I was not impressed when accused of this and denied it was me....and after much discission with the boss man, he came back to me the next day and checked with the maid and he had the wrong room....

hehhe...you gotta love Thailand ...but did i cop some shit from my mates at work when i returned back home ....hehheheh...

Booked into the PBR (I'm too) for week 1 of my trip. Booked the standard room and will use the savings for an extra night on Ko Samet.

Hey Ozzie, a few tuk tuk questions. When the tuk tuk hits 2nd Road does it make a right or a U turn to get back to the hotel? If it's making a right anyway I would think you're getting a little closer to 131.

Is a 20 baht tip customary for the hotel's tuk tuk driver? More? None?

Can you call to get picked up on 2nd Road to go back to the hotel?

Interesting how we all have different likes/dislikes. It's a plus for me that hotel does not have laundry service. Don't need either a middle man or overpriced hotel service.

Anyone know which nearby laundry uses detergent that makes your clothes "smell like Thailand"? There was a great laundry next to my old hotel that made my clothes smell great. Just a quirk of mine......

Big plus that you got the 450 charge immediatly so you could sort it out before checkout.

The Tuk Tuk is free (but about every third or fourth trip I use them I leave a 20 Baht note when they take me to Soi 15...)

That's as far as the Tuk Tuk will go and it works 24 hours a day.

Yes - the Tuk Tuk WILL come and collect you for free, but the motorcycle taxi from the same spot is just 20 Baht so you might not want to bother waiting for it.

The Tuk Tuk goes almost to the mouth of Soi 15 and Second Road then turns around on itself and goes back the way it came.

A couple of times I had the Tuk Tuk drop me outside 131, although it was around 11.00pm and he was not quite so busy. And on another occasion he took through to 3rd road to meet another forum member in the Darling Bar.
Both times I paid the driver 20 Baht.

I do my best to avoid mototaxis in Thaland. Can count the times on one hand. In Kanchanaburi when I was being hassled by a pack of soi dogs I figured it was the lesser of evils.

one time was it for me.
almost lost my lunch all over my ladyboy sliding on some wet pavement in phuket my very first night there.
