I thought the PBR was a good place to stay for a short time visit, 2-3 days.
Liked the deluxe rooms, and the staff are pretty good too.
The pool area is great and catches the sun most of the day.
The location is good for a boring guy like me who likes to get away from the mass mayhem of Pattaya, but with the mall open its just a leisurely 5-7 minute walk to 131 and Stringfellows.
Didn't eat there but got drinks regularly from room service and very prompt they were too.
The Tuktuk is available 24hrs a day and can be called to pick you up at anytime.
With the summer rates in place, this is a good value place to stay.seriously pig headed, arrogant, double standard smart ass poster!

(PigDogg @ Aug. 31 2007,04:29) In my wanderings found a great new hotel across from Areca, forget the name that has an introductory special of 1250 baht. Not really more comfortable than Pattaya Bay Resort but more of a wow factor.
The name, i forget but will post in a few days.
1250 this month.
2500 in November.
October is 30% discount so i guess thaty's 1750.
renaissance AT lkpattaya dot COM (can't get the AT to work on this goofy keyboard).
It's on Soi Dianna accross the street from the Areca.
Though the LK Renaissance is without a doubt more impresssive, I think the PBR is just as comfortable.
Hey, Can any of you think of a more stoopid name for a Pattaya hotel than the Renaissance?
Those of you who are budget conscious you might consider the Sawasdee Pattaya at 399 baht a night. It's also on Soi Dianna right by the Areca.
But really I think the high end guys will like the PBR almost as much as the Renaissance and for the low end guys it's worth a splurge but at 660 baht if u stay a week it's hardly a splurge.
Thanks for turning us on to this great hotel Stogie Bear!

I'm very happy to be back here.
The walk to 131 is EASY. A driveway and a mall. Only tough part is crossing 2nd Road but it's only 5 minutes door to door to 131.
lots of movies at the mall, something to do with my teerak during the day.
for those of you who crave a western atmoshere, Shennanigans is now open at the mall and has happy hour from 4 to 7. if you like draft beer, it's one of the few places in Pattaya that does draft right.
I also like being close to soi buckhow, a bit of a slower pace.
At these prices i'd never stay anywhere else. Take advantage of the promotional rate while u can.

(stogie bear @ Sep. 04 2007,05:26) KAOS
Two thirds of the boys scramble of the stage.
Two thirds is an amazingly high percentage and I'm not exagerating. OK, maybe all were not underage perhaps a few illegal aliens but still quite a high number.
But at least in Kaos one expects underage so therefore diligent about IDs. Perhaps more dangerous is the bar where you don't expect underage and just assume everyone's legal.

PigDogg, glad to hear you are enjoying your stay at PBR! I have booked a return visit during my next break in Oct, and will be staying 3 nights Oct 12-14, with my current favorite lb and 2 of her friends. I took her for a 3 night stay end of July and we really enjoyed it, she suggested bringing her 2 friends along this visit as they have never seen the Tiffany and Alcazar Shows.
I just squeezed in for the last few days of the promotional rates, then it goes back to normal. The current rates are great and hard to find a better value for money hotel in Pattaya with those prices!
Your post about Kaos is enlightening and should remind all the importance of checking your date for the evening is at least 18 years old. No one wants a free stay at the Bangkok Hilton!

Following Stogie's enthusiastic "I can't find a single thing wrong with this place", I have just checked in and here are a few negatives:
Security Deposit?
No mention of the 500 Baht security deposit at check in. Good news! Errrr, nope. "Sir, 3500 Baht deposit, please sign here" ie they wanted me to pay for my 3 nights in advance.
After a 5 minute 'discussion' which was about to get a lot more heated (I was wondering what 'go fuck yourself' was in Thai and my finger was on the button of the Whitehouse Condotel number on my mobile phone), they relented and did what every other hotel does and took a copy of my credit card and passport
Sport on TV
60 channels but no ESPN or Star Sports = no EPL or rugby world cup. Useless
E-mail
For those of you with POP e-mail, they do not have an SMTP server....so you cannot send e-mails from your e-mail client. You have to use webmail.
Allocated room
Tried to give me a twin bedded room, even though my e-mail confirmation said king size bed
Room services
Finished at 10pm, not 24 hour
Empty fridge
SB sees this as a positive. I see this as a negative
Noise
Nothing from the construction (my room is at the back), BUT the room and corridor floors are tiles! That means noise carries. I am really looking forward to the maids walking up and down with their trolley outside my room at 8am tomorrow morning
Summary
If you don't care about the items above, it is probably pretty good value. The deposit thing almost made me break my own record for fastest hotel checkout, but various other dealbreakers for me above. I won't be coming back unless my other favorites are fullMister Arse

(Stewart @ Sep. 09 2007,05:46) If you don't care about the items above, it is probably pretty good value.
Tonite we could have used room service at 23:00 but we had to go out for a quick bite instead. An inconvenience but not a big deal for me and I wound up saving a few baht.
Tile floors are a huge plus for me, I like the way they feel aginst my feet, just a personal fetish of sorts. I don't like carpeting in the tropics.
Empty fridge a big plus for me too.
Walls could be thicker but this hotel works for me.
If I was looking for a place to live in Pattaya right now, their low season monthly rate of 13K would make me a customer.
Stewart, you're not a low end guy, you prefer a high standard of service while ole PigDogg is thrilled to be paying 790 a nite with the 7th nite free for a place that is significantly better than any other I've seen at this price point.

I just did not think SB's original "review" was very balanced, so I wanted to show an alternative point of view. It will still end up being great value for a whole bunch of guys. Everyone can just make a better informed decision now.Mister Arse

I agree that the cash deposit situation is a bit of a mess and I've had confrontations about this myself even on my most recent trip where I am a recognisable face.
The cable sucks but I don't watch TV in my room orther than to while away a few hours between shagging. I think the UBC service would add considerably to the room rate, but like you say - there are more options with that rather than the JSAT service (or whatever it is.)
The SMTP email availability for those using POP accounts (ie Outlook, etc...) is something I'll have a word with the owner about... Sounds like a genuine oversight which can be easily fixed.
I too have had the twin bedded room routine and it was easily fixed. The twin bedded rooms are actually two queen sized beds so it's not too bad a problem if the hotel is near 100% occupancy and you are a walk in customer But it's frustrating if you have clearly stated your requirements and they are not met.
Room service hours, empty fridge and 'noisy' tiled floors? Well... that's probably being a bit pedantic for a hotel that charges fairly good low season rates.
I know that the owner reads here and he takes all the comments seriously so we'll see what happens in the future.
For me, the pluses outway the negatives and the negatives (for me) are minimal. At least I get the feeling that any concerns I might have are dealt with better than the traditional "Thai mute stare of complicit ignorance and indifference!' which even Stewart himself has mentioned in his previous critiques of other hotels!
Fine Dining and Five Star are epithets that mean nothing in Pattaya. Fine Dining means 'not fast food' and 5 star means 'Hot water almost all the time!'
The PBR is a mid-range 3 star hotel with 4 star service and 2 star prices... in Pattaya this means that it's worth checking out for most of us who don't have money to burn, but still like a certain level of comfort...
Thanks Stewart...

Although this is in no way a defence for anything, I have noticed that Kim and his staff do put up with some wankers at the hotel. I know there are wankers everywhere and disagreeable louts in every corner of Pattaya, but I've seen some assholes in the PBR and I do have a certain amount of sympathy for all hotel staff in any hotel who have to continually put up with these fools and still try to be perky and attentive all the time they are on duty.
Anyway - the PBR isn't the Nirvana of hotels in Pattaya but for my needs it fits the bill extremely well and I've no doubt that many others will find similar positive reactions here. As you say this hotel has only been open for a few months and in Pattaya it will go against the trend of most hotels if it gets better with time and not worse!
Whenever I go to Pattaya my expectations for anything (food, hotels, girls, honest people) are so low that it's a real joy to find someplace and things that actually do meet certain consistant standards and the PBR is thankfully one of them.

I would stay at the Areca lodge everytime apart from the fact they have "cable" TV in your loom but the "UBC" is downstairs in the bar's which are shut at this time
Hence last time I stayed at the Dynasty Inn as I was assured of ESPN and Star Sports and getting to watch the Manchester United games in the early hoursYour got yer Mother in a whirl

You can always watch Champions league games in your room while in Pattaya because they are shown on the free to air Thai TV stations.
Obviously the only problem is the commentary in the event that you do not understand Thai.
