I had this conversation with the owner of probably one of Thailand's busiest and most profitable Gogo bars (ok its GG but still relevant) - he was of the view that he WANTS to be the most expensive venue - his view is that it keeps out the low rent guys. He is not sorry for his approach - but his view is that if guys want cheap beer (or pussy) - they dont come to his place. His barfines are also high - yet he is still probably the most profitable venue in Thailand. There is nothing wrong with different models - if you dont agree with it - just dont frequent it. It also has to be said that he has probably the best line up of stunners in any Gogo bar I have been into. These girls demand huge salaries and get them. Thats the way the world is these days - accept it or adjust your sights to suit your wallet. I am not really sure whats wrong with this model - its clearly stated - its like walking into a 5* hotel and being surprised to paying 400 Euro for a nights stay in Central Paris

That is easy if you don't like a GG gogo bar policy since there is probably another one next door. However with lb bars it is a bit more difficult to find another one to drink at.

I don't think C&D is out to be the most expensive venue in Phuket, but I do agree that they can set up whatever policies necessary to keep the bar profitable in this economic climate. The fact that they have been able to increase their revenue at a time when numerous bars have gone under is a testament to effective management and policies.

How many of you have actually been to C&Ds and did not spend 500 Baht when you visited? As a few have posted this policy has not affected any of you who visited and decided to bar fine one of their staff.

Or maybe you would prefer C&Ds to be more like the Nana Bars, where you don't want to spend much of your time because of bill padding, bad customer service, etc, etc?

I hope your not comparing C&D to this model.  C&D has some decent looking girls but it is far from being an upscale place.   The times I've been to C&D the problem wasn't the lack of girls, it was the lack of customers.  Hard to figure how this is going to help, makes no business sense to me but the owner is free to do whatever he wants.

It may have escaped your attention but only Westerners go to C & Ds so of course they apply "western qualities and monetary values..."

What Phuket needs is more competition in LB bars.  There's only C&D and Tequilla bar with lots of LBs.

Ok I admit  I only consumed in the bar two bottled waters before I barfined (LT) Ae  (the first time) round 9 PM and then fucked her brains out.  I don't drink alcohol,  nor soft drinks, how do you want me to spend 500 B if I only pay 1 LD.  I only take 1 LB at a time.

i REALLY dont get the fuzz about this.....
iwe met a LOT of BM`s both in C&D but also in the others venues of LOS, and i think that under 1% had a barbill less than 500 lets face it...most BM`s are another kind of costumers than the rest...we socialise more,and we seems to like the atmosphare in the bars,we dont just get in,barfine a girl,and rush off to the shagging-pads...

iwe just returned from 24 days in C&D,and i was there when he put up the sign,but i never saw it "in use"... to mee it seems its a kind of "tool" they can use WHEN they want to enforce...and not a second before,its just as when the indian "tourists" are comming into the bar,then his staff is quick to present them with the drinks-card...and it works almost every time...they rush out the door...

i THINK that iam quite close to the thruth regards the BM`s "spending-pattern" versus Jimbos idea about the sign, so let me state this...

IF a BM (with more than 100 posts) can show evidence that they were billed up to the 500 baht before they could barfine the girl in C&D...then I`ll fucking pay them myself

batman4ever, keen observation there, and also keep in mind if the browse only, drink water, spend less than 500 Baht types are not in the bar, the staff are not tied up. You will have a better chance to spend some time with your lady of choice if she isn't occupied with the "spectators".

robbo, I think you must differentiate between customers and staff. 500 baht is not a lot to spend for an overseas tourist, and that is the major clientele for C&D. I think they get few if any Thai customers at the bar.
