So the Mamasan's have decided to 'enforce' an entry fee for these specific individuals - it does NOT apply to all patrons. In fact I was leaving the same bar when I witnessed the incident.

The Mamasan told the 'gentlemen' that they must pay 1000 baht each to enter the bar. The Mamasan knew these customers were a waste of time for the bar.

I hope that is clearer now...

You are forgetting those big spenders who buy a beer at 7/11 or Family Mart and then stand outside the LB bars chatting with the LBs trying to get phone numbers...

To me that is the ultimate insult to the bar and the LBs...

I go to Thailand with my wife. I am probably not the only one. I can normally manage to get some time to myself but never a whole day, maybe a couple hours in the evening. When I do get away I am on a mission. I go into a place get a drink and pick someone. All the crap about "no one interesting me" does not apply. Someone always does. I offer them a drink and if they want it I will buy. Maybe even one for a personable server. But then we have to go because after a short time I can go somewhere else and do it again. If upon leaving I was told that after agreeing to the bar fine and payment to the lady I cannot take her because I still needed to spent another 200 BHT I would just feel stupid. I am already about to suck someones dick, like I need this. Now this has never happened to me. But it would definitely make me feel stupid.

Somewhere between the entrance door and a chair I have to decide whether I want to spend 900 baht or not. I in the position where I have to make a quick once over of whatever talent happens to be in my eyesight. If there is one or some that I might want to barfine then I have to sit down and drink up 500 baht.

If I don't see anything that turns me on within the first minute then I should walk out.

There is something here that I am not interpreting correctly. I'd think this policy would chase away more money than it generates. Certainly it stops the cheap charlie that doesn't drink, just barfines. However it intimidates the casual LB hunter.

Many times I've had a couple drinks and left without barfining, but this kinda makes me feel like I got to make a choice right away, drink and barfine or leave.
