I've met several 'Gentlemen from Portland' - though never knowingly any from Hereford - or the gray-blue bunch no-one has ever heard of.
The ones that were still working used to show up for a look at what we did on merchant ships and I was one of the people that showed them around.
I used to pretend I didn't know who they were and they certainly never tell you.
The one retired one I knew well was working as an electrician at sea. He only ever said he was an ex. Royal Marine - any mention of 'other activities' would be met with a total blank.
Not that I ever bothered to ask him - though others did.
Just like Ivor Biggun said above - if they claim they are - they ain't!
As to the original thread of this post. I think the basic premis of these Tourist Police Volunteers is a good idea.
It must be very difficult for ordinary Thais (including the Tourist Police) to understand falangs - both language and manerisms. How many of us really understand Thais?
To have someone with special knowledge to assist I think is a good idea. Though it would appear from the comments of the blogs that they need to do some serious work on the details.
What I cannot understand is that if they are there to assist the police and only have citizens arrest powers - why do they have handcuffs? Why also do they have batons?
As for Mr. Harrison - pepperspray is an offensive weapon - use of it on another person is assault. Hopefully the Royal Thai Police will do the right thing and at the very least kick him out of this volunteer force.

The best thing to do is maintain the vigilant anti plastic cop rhetoric. Expose them for what they are at any given time especially here or in the media and the Thai police will soon get it.
It's all about appearances. Thailand wants to look good... it just hasn't got a clue how to.

Spot on.
(And in the Western World, then Saiphon's idea would be the one, that could influence things. In Thailand, Saiphon's idea would not have an impact, IMO.)"I don´t know what to do. Losing sleep. Kicked from a chatroom on a board about worshipping young transsexual prostitutes.

I don't know anything about them myself but I understand there is a part of the RAF or RAF Regiment that works with or supports the other special forces units.
The're not actually a secret but so far they just have not had any attention paid to them.
Like I said above the only people I have met have all been from Portland.

(marshal @ Mar. 16 2009,16:47) Roadrunner who is the grey/blue bunch? A unit in the RAF regiment?
"The SFSG comprises one support company and four strike companies; 3 of these being primarily from 1 Para and one from the Royal Marines. The RAF Regiment provides a platoon in B Company and the Support Group's Forward Air Controllers"
Not that Mr Man in Black coz its easier to clean would be involved with them!I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here

(Ivor Biggun @ Mar. 16 2009,16:01) Their precise role within the SFSG has not been officially confirmed but it is speculated to include airfield seizure, repair and security, CSAR, CBRN detection/decontamination and JTAC support for UKSF operations"
