"The volunteers are here to assist the the Royal Thai Police (RTP) in any way that they can, although this is usually limited to using linguistic skills and liaising between the permanent and temporary foreign communities, the RTP and local Thai citizens. The senior volunteers wearing white shirts with RTP Immigration Bureau patches on the sleeves have received training in many aspects of policing, and have been assisting the general public for five years now. Having proved ourselves over time, there are circumstances under which we are ordered by our RTP commanding officers to assist in aspects of general policing as they are indeed vastly understaffed.
Wearing our police uniform, and under the jurisdiction of RTP officers, we have similar powers to the "helping hands" Thai volunteers in light brown uniforms. Those powers are basically as dictated to us at any time by the RTP and as they deem necessary.
The RTP feel that in many circumstances, such as road blocks in tourist areas, we can communicate with foreigners and make the process less frustrating. We receive mostly thanks for our services to the public. We take no remuneration and we pay for our uniforms and equipment."

Sounds like they are taking on more and more tasks under the guise of being understaffed. They are always quick to point out they take no renumeration.
Are they taking bribes like Thai police now that they doing many of the same duties without pay? or is it enough for them just wearing the uniform and feeling important. I wonder what they did when they found something during these searches?
i have to ask, if there mediators for fuk wits from europe america and australia,Do they speak fluent thai?? is that a criterior for being enlisted?if not how the fuck can they moderate between local cops and euro trash????
Pretty lame pathetic effort Kahuna. As a veteran board member i would expect a far more intelligent response.
I posted an article straight from the director of the tourist police in Phuket - the point of which was we have it from the horses mouth as to how they are directed to the area they are supposed to be policing at any point in time by the RTP. Whether or not it is the same in Pattaya, we can't be certain, but I would have thought it interesting that the RTP are pushing the tourist police away from the original roles and requesting they do other tasks that would normally be undertaken by regular officers.
If you are not able to follow the logic of the post, then refrain from such childish remarks as your last comments.
There is no inherent defense in these last statements - its merely a statement from the people actually involved in the "policing".
I had speculated in prior posts that the RTP were dictating the actions of the tourist volunteers and now their is some evidence to substantiate that hypothesis.
Bullshit...What does a volunteer cop in Bucket have to do with cops in Pattaya?
Bullshit.. now that just is outstanding You've completely sold me with your insight and 1st hand evidence.
As for cops in Phuket and cops in Pattaya .. or is that tourist police you would be referring to?
This is a phuket post from a tourist police chief .. nothing more... not misquoted nor misrepresented to make people believe it was Pattaya - designed nothing more than to give people a bit more idea of whats going on out there.
Perhaps if you'd bothered to click on the link you have seen the article was about someone questioning the powers of the tourist police in Phuket. If you'd taken further notice - i made no comment nor gave an opinion with respect to the article - it was simply posted.
If you take the time to understand my quote - it's in respect to Ivor biggun question of the legalities of the tourist police doing regular policing activities - to which i am simply saying - the RTP are dictating policy to the tourist police. ( It's not like they are going to refuse the requests of the RTP are they? )
All I can guess is that you are either one of them or know one of them or are fucking one of them or something...
That has got to go down as one of the most infantile efforts i have seen on this board for a long time - If you'd have made the effort to read the thread you would be aware i know one of the tourist police - from Phuket.
Perhaps if you were a little more level headed approach you would have seen the last posts for what they were and not gone on with your petulant rant.
My concern is that there IS a relevance to articles about 'Tourist Police" in any locale in Thailand. These are all being run like private fifedoms by the local cops be they immigration police, tourist police, sanitation police, etc. The way they are acting is encompassing huge grey areas as to jurisdiction, legal powers and seems to be made up on the hoof by the particular Colonel in charge. When it all goes pear shapes we all know who's fault it will be and watch the support peel away rapidly. A volunteer is a volunteer is a volunteer and remember they are supposed to be 'assisting' not 'policing' wherever they are.
I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here

Perhaps if you were a bit smarter, you would have seen that all I was asking is why you keep supporting these Nazi Power Hungry Wankers...It wasn't a rant...It was a question...And I didn't make it personal...You're the only one here who appears to be a bit emotional about this subject...
All you had to do was answer that simple question...
Never mind...I'll just guess...It's a lot more fun...

Good post and with a written statement to the same effect from a local "chief" of the volunteer police.
Now if anyone truly has a gripe, perhaps they can use the evidence to do something about their perceived injustice and take it to a higher authority. But given its Thailand, remember you'll probably need to take along a bribe just to get the process started - and i wouldn't expect any favourable outcome given this is cheapest form of "policing" they are able to obtain in the farang riddled regions of .
