Protectors?? have you actually been to LOS?
The guy is question is a knob - nobody is disputing that - but don't let it detract from the good work that the others do.
These guys are offering a community service, giving up their time and income, to help solve the problems the euortrash are creating in LOS.
If some of these dumb fucks weren't in LOS in the first place, then there would be no need for this service.
And quite frankly suggesting violence to solve a simple issue would tend to sit you squarely in the eurotrash corner.

The merit of some of these volunteers remains debatable...........
I'm sure some indeed do add value and assist but as in every walk of life there is the occasional wanker in the woodpile......
The BIB aren't daft and when it comes to visa renewal time......so be it.My idea of foreplay is getting my wallet out......

Not for a moment would I advocate removing the volunteers, just the few who are either carried away with their authority or are homophobic.
We all know some ladyboys are troublemakers, they are just ONE of the reasons why these guys were put on the street in the first place.
Another would be to act as a curb on the Thai police, before I ever saw the farang volunteers, the police were to be feared as much as the hoons.
I doubt the Thai police would be too thrilled by this story, I suspect they would want anyone pepper spraying locals of any gender, to be removed.
It will be interesting to follow this story & see how it unfolds.
I hope our men on the ground in Pattaya report on any sightings of Mr Harrison. Who knows? He may turn out to be a nice guy who was doing his civic duty but watching the girls on the video suggests otherwise.Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

I disagree with azza33 about the merits of this team of bandits providing any useful service to holiday makers.
It might have started out that way but now they are just freelance thugs.
Like someone else mentioned... power, uniform, pepper sprays... and no pay! Who do YOU think this job would attract?
This kind of volunteer group works better if the recruits are taken on board as advisers to hand out information and mediate between Thais and foreigners over bar bills, etc. And this works better when the pool of potential recruits has an IQ higher than 50.
In almost every dealing I have had with the police the Thai BiBs have been patient, fair and willing to bend the rules to help people avoid trouble.
Retired losers hopping on the bus from their shitty condos in Jomtiem to beach road to squirt pepper spray into freelancing ladyboys on their days off is just one example of the bad apples in this collection of rotten fruits.
Get these fools off the streets and let the real cops deal with things in the way they always have done in the past.
(Unarmed) volunteers in white T shirts with "Volunteer Assistance" on them would be much better for holiday makers than sad alcoholic losers intimidating the tourists because they can't get it up anymore.

Exactly
Volunteers should give advice, help with communication between Tourists and Thai cops, etc...
They should not be acting as policemen !
And they should be dressed as "Tourist Volunteers", maybe in a nice white polo shirt with a big logo, not as a paramilitaries."Snick, You Sperm Too Much" - Anon

I cannot imagine how any member of this Board can extol their merits...
Their sole purpose seems to be to harass every ladyboy they see...Many ladyboys
I know are afraid to go to Walking Street because of them...Afraid to go even when they
are in your company...One BM tells of a time when he and his long-time ladyboy friend
visited Walking Street and she was stopped and questioned...
You have no idea how many times I have walked through the entrance to Walking Street
and by their little table to see 3 or 4 ladyboys sitting there under arrest while they stand
around with their thumbs locked in their pretend cop belts laughing amongst themselves...
When they are not doing that they ride up and down walking Street in their fucking golf cart
looking for freelance ladyboys and pretending to be important...
Yep they do a very good job...You won't see one freelance ladyboy on Walking Street until
they go home around 3 am...
Homophobic wankers all...They certainly don't service the community of ladyboy lovers..."It's not Gay if you beat them up afterwards." --- Anon

The thing you guys gotta remember is these guys are there because of idiot farangs.
I been to Thailand many times and never seen these guys cause a problem - so i'm curious about the rants from Kahuna, Stogie and others... tell us your personal stories. Not what you may speculate or assume - tell us cold hard facts about ALL the times these guys have overstepped their duties and personally effected your life.
I for one have never had an issue with these guys - i don't cause trouble. (well not too much anyways)

hmmmm, I hope my last post was not interpreted as extolling their merits, I was only offering a reason for the existence of the Volunteer Police.
It seems very much like their "raison d'etre" is well past its use-by-date.
There has always been an anti-ladyboy bias in the tourist areas of Thailand - they are the first to be blamed for crime, harrassment, drugs, etc.
If I can accurately recall my limited experience with the Tourist Police in Phuket & even less experience with the Volunteers in Pattaya, I suggest that these guys role has morphed from being there to assist visitors who find themselves having trouble with locals to outright intimidation of the "enemy", our LB friends.
That isn't fair to the fellows who have no doubt saved many a drunken farang from their own stupidity, BUT dressing up ex-pats in black uniforms with the authority to laud it over whoever gets in their way is not on either.
Before we scream for the Volunteer idea to be abandoned, remember what it was like without them. The local Thai cops had no obstacle in charging anyone with anything.
I would rather taken my chances with the Volunteers then ever see a return to what it was like before. I remind all to be careful what you wish for.Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

I agree some of them do have tourist's interests at heart, but some get off on the uniform. The TPV are there to assist TOURISTS. This was a Thai on Thai situation not 500m from the main police station- he would have no authority even if he HAD been on duty. Why are these guys hassling LB or other Thais, again they have no authority unless there is an incident with a TOURIST- their 'authority' is still questinable as they are there to 'assist'.Why didn't he reach for his mobile in his Batman utility belt instead of the pepper spray- the cops could have been there in minutes?
This is the type of behaviour that gets the organisation as a whole slagged off and stops people like myself with the background and training to be a contribution to the program ever considering doing it. There's a Walt that drives around Phuket with police stickers on his truck and when he parks it flips down the visor with 'Police' written on it. For a start he IS NOT a cop but I'm sure the woody he gets makes his dayI couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here

I mean, Mugabe's (just for you M ) abuses of power have never directly affected my life..
For that matter, neither did Hitler's.....
