I think maybe id just jumped in a Taxi in Silom Road when the bombs went off and so i didnt notice anything different . When i walked into Nana ,KL told me that bombs had gone off.

They send some security gaurd to Nana who made a five minute inspection and then fucked off  even though there was a laden pick up truck plonked right in the entrance.....To be honest no one seemed botherd although a few  punters made hasty exits when the Bar screens showed the newsflash....

made for the Guess Bar after although me and Simon went back to Nana later

i ended up at a party in Silom and it was pretty normal . I had  a good time anyway and ended up with a real stunner called Dow . Patpong was still open, well KC3 was anyway, and plenty of street dancing and parties although not quite as busy as one would expect.....

The only explosions in Pattaya were the massive fireworks that were being set off all over the place. I don't think many of the tourists were aware of what happened in Bangkok as I have NEVER seen Walking Street and all the bars as packed as they were last night.

Who knows who it was, or even what insane motive or justification there twisted minds can come up with about it. Its such a shame for the LOS tho', there will be plenty of people now thinking twice about coming here for a holiday, I won't be one of them, it will take a bit more to put me off!

Australian dept of Foreign Affairs have just put out travel warnings for Thailland. No real biggie as they do get spooked easily. Any Aussies travelling should read the fine print in their travel insurence as some policies are null and void if travel warnings are issued. Any one lucky enough to being on thier way, have fun you lucky dogs

Went to Cowboy last night no worries.

                    Putting things into perspective:

BANGKOK POST REPORTS 14 KILLED LAST NIGHT IN CAR ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY DRUNK DRIVERS.

Never made it to the BBC.

Nothing much on thai TV except repeat of yesterdays news, life is going on.

Off to guess bar tomorrow, look out for me Stogie.

A classic Brit embassy statement. Make sure you get the "get out clauses" in place then you can play the trump card, "I told you so" when people need assistance. Don't spoil the Pimms & G&T old boy.

They didn't seem overly bothered how much danger they put me in when i was actually serving in the forces.

I will not be dictated to by terrorists! Unfortunately the Tourist Horde, Gawping Masses & Backpackers    will be.

Forty people die from road accidents each day in Thailand. During Songkran it doubles or triples.
There were 902 casualties during New Year 2004 and 840 during Songkran last year.. said Tairjing Siripanich, director of the Public Health Ministry's medical institute for accident and disaster prevention.

Hi Bam... just to add to your statistics... The definition of a road accident casualty is only if the person dies at the scene. People who die later in hospital later do NOT count in these stats. As many people do die later as a result of their injuries then I'll bet you can just about double or triple any 'official' statistics.

I'd take a bet that every family in Thailand has had at least 1 person killed or seriously injured in a road accident in the last 5 years!

Next time you are with someone in LOS look at their legs and you will see 80-90% have scars - mostly from motorbike accidents.

When the IRA was setting off bombs in London almost on a monthly basis I was still going there.

I'm back in BKK on the 7th January

Yeah i can vouch for the stats , 14,500 killed a year.As for me , a valuable lesson learned on my first day in Bangkok at 2 in the afternoon.
Went to cross over Sukhumvit road near the Landmark hotel , looked right...3 lanes clear
ran across the road , over the central reservation , looked left , 3 lanes clear , stepped down onto the road and BANG....nearly came home in a box.Luckiest guy in Thailand that day , bounced up the side of the car and landed in a heap.Driver didnt stop , motorbikes driving round me as i crawled off the road on my hands and knees....a valuable lesson learned
the other side of the road is 2 lanes one way and 1 the other .
