Thai market is flat to down today, so looks like I will give up the gains tomorrow.

Real question is where am I in a month.

Never heard of FAX, sovereign debt always scares me. Its either good, and doesn't pay much; or bad with a high default ( Russia, Argentina.....)

Still need to do some research on VietNam, I'm getting the hell out of Japan.

      Snick, You're up 10%.

You could start at the top of Soi 6 and have a beer and shorttime in every bar on the street with the profits!

      Life is good!

I didn't buy THAT much (wish that I did) , I think I could only manage to shortime all of Pook bar and Tornado -- and maybe the 2 cuties in Redlight Bar ( or whatever the name is )

It sounds like a few of us invest in foreign markets via ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) or Mutual Funds.
Personally I have a Korean Fund (Makox) and a Korean ETF (EWY); a Japanese ETF (Ewj) and a Thai ETF (TF). I bought the Japan ETF 3 years ago, and I should have bout the HK Fund instead !!!

Now I will probably get out of the Jap fund, and take the loss. But my others have done very well.

sounds like i got into ewj at a similar time but i'm gonna stick with it long-term, admitting i know nothing and not wanting to sell anything else low til i have to.
a better bet was getting into ewz (brazil) which has been on fire (good for the stock, but not for the rain forest).
ttf we've already mutually bemoaned, but again, i'm sticking long-term.
you have me interested in korea now -- still think it's a good buy?
              see you next month...

I think Korea is a great buy right now, its off almost 20% from 2000+ to 1660 now

Pull up a 5 year chart for EWY

Hong Kong is another option, they really got walloped the last few weeks too

The economist just had an article on Brazil economy, very positive.

I Should put in a Disclaimer:

Snick is an accredited alcoholic not a stock broker. His advice is worth what you pay for it, maybe less. If you make any money Following the advice of Snick or his Snick Economic eXchange newsletter - then you are required to commission Snick 1% of your profits in Drinks. Bought a little of Indonesian Fund today. Nice discount but had been selling at a premium not too long ago.

Anyone like any of these Thai stocks that are available as ADRs to Americans? Or any that are dangerous?

I don't have enough local knowledge AND I LIVE HERE

I just play the ETF, and I am up 25% on my 'TF' investment

I am surprised that Siam Cement did not show up your list, they are the largest construction firm in Thailand and should benefit from the new subway construction (if it finally happens)

PTT is the local oil company, they have investments in Burma and Cambodia which could be valuable. BUT the government might try and control fuel prices more, and that would be bad.

Mr. T is due back tomorrow, my lucky chicken cannot tell me how that will affect telecom stocks (shin, ais, ttt)

Big problem with Thai stocks, is they are very vulnerable to gov't interference (and Thai gov'ts love to interfere)

There is now a Thai ETF, ticker THD.  Think this means there's little hope that either TTF or TF will ever trade at a premium again.

                              Merk Asian Currency Fund

Here's a brand new fund that can be used as a hedge against the dollar. The fund currently has only a very small baht exposure indicating that they're not bullish on the baht.

This fund is a good way to play the Chinese won.

Its been a year, but TF is now 10.19 and I am now in the black.

Too bad its all at the expense of the US Dollar
