(DutchCowboy @ Nov. 25 2008,21:27) Looks like my first trip to LOS is down the drain
Sorry, that's really unforseen back luck Dutch.

    It sucks.

          Nah.

You can always fly to KL or Singapore then hop on a flight to Phuket.

            Even more coverage and "background".
            http://news.yahoo.com/s...._unrest

Group Capt. Chokchai Saranon, a control tower official, said 50 masked protesters armed with metal rods demanded to enter the control tower Wednesday, seeking the prime minister's flight schedule. Three were allowed in, but with flights canceled, there were no controllers to provide the information and the protesters eventually left. In any case, Somchai was to land later Wednesday at a separate, military airport.

Twenty flights were diverted to Bangkok's Don Muang airport, the former international airport that now normally handles domestic traffic, and a dozen others were rerouted to U Taphao military airport about 190 kilometers (118 miles) east of Bangkok, as well as to Hong Kong and Singapore airports, airport officials said.

There will also be flights to Koh Samui and Chiang Mai.
look at Tiger Air for Singapore, and Air Asia for SG and KL

I'm supposed to be flying in tomorrow for a couple of nights.

I may have to postpone it now.

Good news DC. I am still staying positive myself and will most likely travel next week.

US State Dept travel warning and travel alerts lists this morning. Nothing about Thailand.

Interesting list Rocky.  Some real dangerous places and others not so.

                      Nepal:

Public transportation, such as microbuses and tuk tuks, should be avoided because they are often overfilled, driven unsafely, and mechanically unsound.  American citizens should use taxis with meters or negotiate a price with the taxi driver before starting a trip.
                      Chad:

The Chadian government is unable to guarantee the safety of visitors in most parts of the country. Family members of Embassy personnel under the age of 21 are not authorized to reside in Chad.

A bit of a "disconnect" I would say.

Good info in this thread so far.

                              ---

                              12:14pm:

The protesters have issued an apology to passengers that sounds like a train announcement.

                              It reads:

The people's alliance apologizes for any inconvenience the closure of the Suvarnabhumi Airport may cause to the public and international visitors to the Kingdom of Thailand. But the PAD believes the measure is crucial to bring an end to the traitorous-killer government.

                              ---

The link is really useful as it is a hour-to-hour update on the situation.

Right. I am not feeling sympethatic.
