(kleetora @ Jun. 25 2008,05:26) I agree with the drug comments, why would you sneak them out of Singapore and into Thailand, but stranger things have happened.
Maybe because nobody would expect you to?

That's gotta be a safe route then, if nobody bothers to look because it's such a dumb idea, right?

Wrong... people do look and yes, dumber things have been attempted.

Besides, drugs aren't the only contraband one might attempt to smuggle through.

(Road Runner @ Jun. 26 2008,19:49)   Several of the Hindu dieties and thier avatars are revered in Thailand  -  Ganesh the elephant god is one.
Don't forget Hanuman, the monkey faced god

Anybody ever wondered what that statue is at Jomtien on the corner of the main street near Jomtien Complex?

      Thats him..

(Road Runner @ Jun. 27 2008,04:49) Budhism is an offshoot of Hinduism  -  a bit like Christianity sprang from Judaism.

            RR.
No offense mate, but that's wildly inaccurate. Judaism is older than Christianity and they both originated in roughly the same part of the world. Same with Hinduism and Buddhims (Hinduism is actually the oldest 'world religion', by a distance of about 4000 years). But there the resemblance ends.

Hinduism and Buddhism have interwoven because of cultural migration more than anything else. Just like Thai food has lots of Indian influences.

Anyway. Now back to the thread....

              Hello Otho,

No offence taken     -  but it was a rough analogy.

JC is/was? a prophet of Jehova the god worshiped in Judaism   -  the Christians pinched him as 'Their Prophet'
Buddha was a Hindhu prince who became a spiritual teacher  -  the Buddhists pinched him as 'Their Teacher'

              Spot the parallel?

Hinduism and Buddhism have interwoven because of cultural migration more than anything else.
They are interwoven because Budhism stems from Hinduism.

Get yourself along to the Royal Palace in Bangkok sometime and have a look at the beautiful mural that stretches around about 800 feet of a quadrangle depicting the life of Buddha. Alternatively it's also depicted in several temples on a smaller scale.

              RR.
Pedants rule, OK. Or more precisely, exhibit certain of the conventional trappings of leadership.

Yes RR, you're right. I've seen it and it moved me to tears.

But the point I'm making is that Buddhism is absolutley not pinched from Hinduism, any more than Christianity is pinched from Judaism. They each sprung up of their own volition yet there are astonishing similarities.

The fascinating thing for me is the extraordinary parallels that exist between all the 'world religions' that are centred around a messiah figure.

I have a couple of postcards stuck up in my pinboard. One is of Saint Patrick, one is of Hanuman. In nearly every details, they are identical! Both have a heirophantic club in their right hand. Both are depicted as giants, striding across a landscape with their right foot crushing a mountain. Both are using their left feet to crush a pestilence. Yet both were painted hundreds of years apart, by artists thousands of miles apart, in trimes when there was no possibiltiy of an artist in India and an artist in Ireland communicating with each other in any way, shape or form.

Really sorry to hijack the thread guys. It's just something that fascinates me, as it does Road Runner.

To get back to it, my tip for dos and donts when visiting your sweetheart is - try not to wipe your knob on the curtains.

Quite right. A big 'faux pas.' Ask your girlfriends mum for a Kleenex as it drips onto the pale blue tiled floor.

Do you think you'll be spending most of the days with the whole family unit or mostly be just going off with your tee rak? Thats something to consider - I think if you have to lug around all the excess baggage it is going to change your trip significantly.

As was suggested, it may not be in your best interests to stay at the house for a prolonged period of time. I would advise you to consider taking a 2-day getaway to tbe beach or something. It would score you major points.

She's planning the itinerary. Have told her that I intend to visit the tailor so she needs to find a good one.

She has also mentioned heading to some grape garden in Pattaya. No, we're not going alone. Her elder sis and a friend is joining us.

And quite a number of markets as well on the cards at the moment. I understand it'll not be quite your cup of tea. Alot of walking.

The excess baggage, you're referring to the hangers on, right?

I think there will be time and space to do some couply stuff. I think I'm not the only one who misses some physical presence.

I would listen to your sweetheart in regards to gifts , and also buy some stuff that is unique to your neck of the woods , always a good ice breaker and gives them and you something to have a few friendly conversation about .

Also take your camera and take lots of Foto's of them and their freinds and extended family , also let them take plenty of Foto's of you too , and before you leave go and get them all printed out for them to keep .

Have fun , good luck .

                                What do you think

"Rowell Road bottom trawler infected by DP virus falls for Romeo's hooker, arrested for buddha desecration at new Bangkok airport "I chopped the head off to make sure there were no drugs inside, honest", 6 years in Chonburi Hilton where he learns that not just Romeo girls are bottoms, eventually makes it to his sweetheart's home to find that she did not wait for him and is married to FriedFunk and DP in a grotesque menage a trois outside Buriram. Guilt ridden, the Romeo's hooker falls for our hero again, just long enough to extract any last dollars from his bank account that he didn't use up bribing the Chonburi prison guards not to use their batons, then dumps him again, saving the long term economic future of Rowell Rd for the next 10 years"

Fucking hell......passion, grief, sex (ouch!), jealousy.....

This is a bestseller.....Si Geena, can I buy the film rights?
