(dummy_plug @ Jun. 23 2008,08:23) So Kahuna, how did you deal with this? I mean, I assume you've probably been in a few situations where you've been at the head of the table surrounded by several of your tee rak's "cousins", "friends", and "others". Do you pretty much just grin and pay up at the end?

And if you get the inkling this is going to happen, how do you avoid such pitfalls?
Well, DP, I was lucky or unlucky enough to be lost in Yasothon (get a map mate) where a meal for 5 or 6 normally costs less than 200 baht...

And eating at a high-end restaurant, would be like going to something like an all-you-can-eat MK for 99 baht a head...A bottle of whiskey costs 45 baht...A 5 or 6 lb pork loin at the market is less than 100 baht...cigarette lighters are 3 for 10 baht...A large plastic bag of pappaya (which they eat at least twice daily) or noodles and pork is 15 baht...and the rice pots, both steamed and sticky, are always full...No McDonalds, No Kentucky Fried...No western food available...

These are poor poor Isaan folks and I was the rich farang...I was expected to pay...And I knew that going in...

And when it became too much, which grew in frequency as time went on,  I just walked about 100 yards out to the main road and caught a 300 baht bus ride back to Bangkok...

(stogie bear @ Jun. 23 2008,16:25)  Off topic... Start a new thread or stick to the subject.
I was going to suggest the same thing. I will respond to harris11 over on the dedicated thread about Fern, where this belongs.

For those who are bored already, may I add that there is no proof, no smoking gun about Fern's fidelity.

I was only extrapolating on the post that gives Fern's phone number with the information that she is looking for customers, she wants to buy a condo.

I had it on good authority that I would upset harris11, even receive a challenging PM for suggesting she was not faithful to him.

These little challenges become irresistible late at night after a good meal.

Sure enough, this morning there was the PM, asking for my explanation.

In the spirit of his reasonable request I am happy to respond later today when I have the time.

Just not here, upsetting harris11 is one thing, upsetting our webmaster is something else again ......

(si geena @ Jun. 23 2008,07:57) 2. I'm bringing back for 1 of her suitcase. She left it with me because it would have exceeded her luggage allowance. There's a buddha statue in it and I've been instructed not to stuff footwear and underwear with buddha. I hope buddha travels well.
        huh?

You're bringing this case back from where exactly?

This rings more alarm bells for me than anything else you've said so far...

si geena is in Singapore where his companion of choice has been working. I agree though, be sure there is absolutely no contraband in her suitcase before flying to LOS. Check the linings, x-ray, etc. whatever is necessary to make sure it is ok.

(sev7en @ Jun. 23 2008,07:23) pacman, knowing your shameless brown nosing and protecting towards the "female" members on this board i don´t know if you are being sarcastic. In normal cases  this would be bitter sarcasm, really good actually, but the thought that it isn´t scares me.
If you are not sure if I am being sarcastic then stay scared. Very scared ....

As for protecting the female members of this board, I assume you refer to the wondrous charms of Naang Faa.
Two things FYI, please don't include the inverted commas around "female" when referring to Naang, she would be offended by the inference.

Secondly, why do you assume I am protecting Naang?
With her standing in the LB community & her sweet left hook, did it not occur to you she might be protecting me?

I wonder what our illustriously charming & super-intelligent webmaster, Stogie Bear thinks of this?
Brown-nosing indeed ..... where do you get these ideas ??

(si geena @ Jun. 23 2008,16:57) Well well, fascinating. Looks like all of the guys are pitching in a little to help the young 'un out.

I'm under no illusions that this could go drastically awry once I touch down.

                  1. The clothes. She has made mention that she has some clothes for me. Well, before she went back to BKK, she did buy me underwear... briefs... of the skimpy colourful variety, which I do not wear.

                  2. I'm bringing back for 1 of her suitcase. She left it with me because it would have exceeded her luggage allowance. There's a buddha statue in it and I've been instructed not to stuff footwear and underwear with buddha. I hope buddha travels well.

                  3. I have spoken to a couple of the family members. All sound like they are quite keen to actually meet me and I do note that as much as I want to endear myself to them, they would like to do likewise as well. It's perhaps a very sobering note.

                  4. Got it. Chocs for the young one, perfume for the mother. Still wondering what's for the father. He's not in good health apparently and I've yet to speak to him on the phone.
                  1. "She has made mention that she has some clothes for me"= Them jumpsuits you mentioned before.

                  2. " I'm bringing back for 1 of her suitcase." = Drugs inside the statue or the linings of the suitcase.

3: "endear myself to them, they would like to do likewise as well." = They want your atm card with pincode included.

                  4." He's not in good health apparently"=Needs medical care=Baht.

                    Dear pacman,
i should have used the word worried instead of scared.
If you were being sincere, i am worried about you. You are probably even more blue-eyed than harris11 then, and i hate to see you go the same way.

Nang Faa is not a female, she´s a transsexual and i don´t think she even consider herself female. I doubt she´s offended.

As for SB, he gives this board slack to air our opinions
and that´s why it´s the best in it´s genre. I have faith in the Guru.

                    Take care, pacman.

I wish i could! In my book sarcasm is good. I was brought up with irony and sarcasm. The comedians i like are the sarcastic ones.  Gary Shandling, Letterman , Dennis Miller etc.
Not long ago a kid , maybe 15 years old wore a god awful pukeugly sweater (think Bill Cosby sweater ugly). I told him" Nice sweater", the kid smiled and said "Thanks". The young nowadays doesn´t get irony. And forget the thais, they never get a sarcastic comment.
So when i said you were sarcastic it was a comment.
