A few social faux pas you must avoid at all costs in Thailand:

1) Do not disrespect the King or royal family - this can lead to being put in prison, or deportation - something as simple as stepping on a coin or a bill may cause you problems.

2) Do not touch the top of a person's head - this is sign of disrespect

3) Do not point your feet at another person, even while relaxing as this is an insult.

4) always remove your shoes when entering someone's residence.

5) This is a porno forum so you can find out other social faux pas by reading travel information sites.

6) start saving your money for your trip to Thailand.

7) read and use the search function first before posting questions on the forum - as you have discovered many questions have already been answered - this is one of the best sources of Thai lb information on the net.

er.... thanks, I think. What I meant by the "Social Fau pax" in my title description was the ramications of "butterflying" and how to negate them or how best to avoid problems whilst still maintaining the butterfly attitude.

So, it would be a capitol offense to touch the top of someone's head with my pointing feet then...

Using your feet to point at someone's head is very frowned upon. (I hardly think there's any society that literally promotes such a behaviour, is there?)

So to literally touch it would be obvious poor manners. But if you're a farang, they'll probably think of you as a clumsy white buffalo.

As we all know, Thais revere their King, that's why they revere their Baht. The King's image is on the Baht, both notes and coins. Contrary to most BM's beliefs, Thais are not money-minded, they merely revere their King's image.

Wais... You are likely to be a customer in most social settings if you're a tourist. Unless you need to approach the Thai embassy, you probably need not wai to anyone.

I do wonder how the mamasan/ papasan actually knows which girl is great at bj. I have my doubts. They may know if certain girls are "good-heart", but if it comes to bj expertise, I do not 100% rely on their advice.

All research will not come to much if you don't take the leap of faith! Go to Thailand, hit it hard and running and don't ever look back.

I plan on visiting numerous lb hangouts in Thailand. Being a first timer to the country, I have a few newbie questions, and I know the people here can really help.

Firstly, is it relatively safe to go alone? Or would you recommend going on this trip with friends?

Also, after landing in Bangkok, how accessible is it to get to Pattaya? is it as simple as taking a bus/train? or do I have to plan something before hand. Same question applies to traveling to Pukhet (or should I just stick with one?), Is it better to stay a night or two in Bangkok? or should I just head to another one of the desired spots?

I know it's all a matter of preference, but I want to have the best Thailand lb experience as possible, and I'd like to hear peoples input on the best way to plan this trip, and what locations to travel and not travel to, and how accessible it is to certain locations.

1) Perfectly safe - In fact I recommend going in alone the first time....its a unique experience when a newbie enters a bar and the sharks (er girls) sense fresh meat. (ps. I am serious, its an experience that you will never have if you go with a group the very first time)

2) Pattaya is very easy to get to. a) take the Bus from Ekkami Bus Station 130Baht (cheap, clean and fast), b) take a Taxi, cost will be 1200-1500 Baht negotiable
DO NOT let the hotel book you a 'tourist bus' to Pattaya, this is a huge ripoff and takes twice as long

3) For Phuket you should fly with AirAsia.

If all you want is LBs - then skip Phuket and concentrate on Pattaya and Bangkok.

Travelling alone is fine & as safe as you allow it to be. I prefer it myself as I can plan my time without the need to compromise.

The risks of being robbed are not great if you don't leave the opportunity for it to happen.

I would suggest going straight to Pattaya, you are about an hour closer from the airport with the new freeway giving a direct run.

No train, bus if you wish, but for convenience, grab a taxi, it is no more than 1500 baht & your options are all discussed in the thread that covers it.

Recommended accommodation has its own thread & I would advise having somewhere to head to. Arriving in traffic, in the heat, driving up & down Pattaya looking for a room is just too hard, you can always check out after one night.

Phuket is your own choice, remember it is an hour flight from Bangkok & will take almost a day out of your stay each way with added expense.
Contrary to many opinions you will get here on the forum, I do like Phuket & recommend anyone to visit at least once so they can form their own opinion.

Good luck with your visit, it never goes to plan but the advice available here will save you from making many mistakes.

Thailand is perfectly safe traveling alone.

You would have to go out of your way to find trouble.

I feel safer in Bangkok than I do in Australia,

however, walking home drunk, alone, late at night, you are putting yourself at some risk.

Remember there is no social welfare safety net in LOS & there are many people here right now going hungry.

Why be a fool & take the chance?
