In fact that is what sets them apart. for some reason the New Italian Job totally lacks humour...

Get the original to see, in my opinion, British Film making of the 60's at its finest.

I've not see the new one  -  as I said above  -  but I've seen enough of the trailers and clips to form the impression that it took itself too seriously.

As you say the original was always tounge in cheek  -  meaning it was not taking itself seriously for those that have not heard the saying before.

I like the original very much but always thought the end was a let down.  I know they were planning a sequel but I think they could have made a better finish.

Saw an interview with I think it was Michael Caine that told much of the story behind the film  -  it was very interesting and worth looking out for.


They started with something like 30 minis and they were modified in batches of 3 to perform certain of the stunts.
The ones driven in the sewer had to have the electrics completely waterproofed.
The ones in the rooftop jump had everything taken out to save weight and special strengthened suspension.
By the end of the movie they had smashed up every one  -  don't buy a mini that 'featured in the Italian Job'.

I'm pretty sure they banned it using the 'Lesse Majeste' law so I doubt they have changed their minds since.

A close friend saw a copy for sale at one of the stalls on Sukhumwit road a few years ago so you can find it there.

Otherwise you can get it sent to Thailand by Amazon.

good point, I've never seen that one either ......

2 movies you guys may have never seen and didn't get a lot of ink were No Way Out with Kevin Costner and Mercury Rising with Bruce Willis. Both worth seeing; No Way Out stars Costner and Gene Hackman {always good} as well as the little guy from The Postman and is centered around a Navy Officer who ends up working for the secretary of defense....surprise ending and very well done.

Mercury Rising is about a burned -out FBI agent and his attempts to save a young autistic kid....also well done and good acting from a young-ish Bruce Willis.

An Oldie but a goodie "French Connection". Gene Hackman.

I haven't seen it (or not all of it) but not for lack of trying. I keep getting shit pirate copies that won't play through.

I had to watch it in high school for Television and Film class. It bored me silly back then, not sure if I'd feel much different even today. All I can remember is it was in B&W and about some kid's toy wagon named Rosebud. Or was it a sled?
