  • (whore @ Jun. 07 2010,19:00) I would of had death proof lower on that list. Its probably his only film I didnt really like.
I liked Death Proof...A very simple fun film...And while he didn't direct, he wrote and starred in From Dusk Till Dawn...Another fun film...

    • (thaibound @ Jun. 07 2010,12:51) yul brenner shaved his head to play the role of the head gunslinger/samurai and was from thenceforth known for his bald pate. when i was a kid i think TM7 was maybe my favorite movie.
No way, he shaved his head and became a French culinary expert?  That's awesome!

      TM7, baby, TM7!

(No, seriously folks, dug your "love you for what" post, mate. The more I read your posts these days, the more I hope raise a glass with you someday.  cheers.)

      • I think Yul Brenner, subconciously, turned me on to Thailand as much as Shogun-guy to Japan...as a young impressionable teenager
Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage

          • I liked Magnificent 7 ..... kinda hokey and horrible acting from the mexican stand-ins, but Bronson was good as was the bald guy and also Steve McQueen. Saw it at the drive-ins when I was a kid and many times since then on cable. Typical fun, easy- to -watch western.

*Little- known fact; Yul Brynner came from Sakhalin island in the ex-soviet union; north of Vladivostok. This place is also well-known because a MIG fighter jet shot down a Korean Air flight in the 80's and murdered hundreds of innocent people; and never apologized for it

              • Four films I'm never likely ever to watch:-

Titanic - pity the film didn't do what the ship did - failed to complete it's journey!
(Watch A Night To Remember - it's very close to what really happened and a fairly good film to boot.)
Pearl Harbour - $100,000,000 for what?
Get Carter - the original was a triumph - the remake? Well at least Sly Stallone's acting is not as bad as his mother's.
The Italian Job 2 - the most expensive BMW advert ever made?

                RR.

I don't see how adding a little to what you posted, is saying or is any indication that I am smarter than you.

I have never said, nor do I care, whether or not I am smarter, you are smarter or if it's totally even. This is apparently something you've come up with on your own.

I've never seen or heard of anyone being so sensitive and holding a grudge over a few trivial forum comments like you seem to be doing and making a mountain out of a molehill.

heh, forgot to mention [or even remember!] that one!

I *heard* it was a dud,  but never saw it; I try and avoid all Ben Affleck movies.

On topic here with this thread, some of you guys may have never seen "Good Will Hunting'' ....it stars and was written by the aformentioned Ben Affleck and his Cambridge {Mass, not England} buddy Matt Damon in what was really the first movie role for either one outside of bit parts.

You guys who never saw it; get it, watch it, trust me on this one...... Robin Williams won the Oscar for Best Supporting actor as the shrink in this, and it's a great study of a young genius who is heading on the wrong path and tries to turn his life around.

Stellan Skarsgard {Hunt for Red October} also has a good role as a math guru, but Damon and Williams steal the show

I guess I'm one of the few who liked Pearl Harbor.

Not an Affleck fan either, but I like Josh Hartnett and I think Kate Beckinsale is really hot.

                        • Is it just a rumour or is "THe King and I" banned in Thailand?

I have heard this bandied about the place... I remember loving it when I was younger, but then again I loved all musicals... The die was well and truly cast it appears. (Gay boy!!!!)

If the Thais have banned it I wouldn't be surprised.... Just interested to know the truth rather than the rumour. Although I guess the movie appears thai-sympathetic to Western eyes the idea of Supreme Person being ...."educated" by a falang woman would not sit well in LOS I imagine.

                            Hi RR,

I bought the New Italian Job along with the original version.

The new one is totally devoid of charm, trying to make up for a badly hashed plot with a lot of pointless stunting.

Although too young to know Noel Coward as a performer, I found the original (complete with what sounds like the Cockney Chimney-sweep Choir closing anthem) really charming an not all that dated. Noel Coward is like many Brit actors of his ilk is the master of underplaying a role for greater effect. (Will, Adam, etc etc take note.) I am glad I bought the movie just to see who this Noel Coward my old man used to yabber on about was. Turns out dad was right.
The car chase scene is superior because it has humour....because the poor little minis are just that... same as you or I would drive. And they do incredible things...

In fact that is what sets them apart. for some reason the New Italian Job totally lacks humour... it should have been a piss take of a genre, a little like Oceans 11 instead it was oh so serious. I suspect the director was a coke-head. He had coke head seriousness about him.

Get the original to see, in my opinion, British Film making of the 60's at its finest.

I'll give any movie with Kate Beckinsale in it, a chance.

Also I confess to having a man crush on Josh Hartnett.

I'm afraid I've not seen Good Will Hunting. After your glowing recommendation, I'll try to see it in the not too distant future.

Was for years and years because they believed it showed the King in a bad light ......still may be, not quite sure.

Lefty you gotta see Good Will Hunting, that is a fantastic movie plain and simple.
