JD I think you are being way to dogmatic. Didnt the vatican persectue Galileo for his ideas and they FINALLY got around to correcting themselves only about 400 years later!!!! Like I said before i dont think all religious Christians think the earth is only 6000 years old. We all know its way complicated than that. Theres a lot of gray area here when you are making everything out to be black and white. See my gorilla analogy above.

        BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!

My Mama told me that the stork brought me...I still believe that...

Mama could never quite tell me just where the stork picked me up though...

And that's the damn mystery that needs to be solved...

I voted for science. Growing up in Ireland I was raised a catholic, but now I would be agnostic. But I would still have respect for other peoples choice to believe in a certain god or religion and wouldnt refer to there choice as magic or superstitious garbage.

A very wise man and enigmatic former member of this esteemed web site once told me: "I cannot prove to you there is no God and you cannot prove to me there is a God."

I think that pretty much sums it up in one simple basic sentence.

I am the by-product of Rats having a Circle Jerk & The FLies did the rest.

                    it's ludicrous

In fairness, for many people it isn't a choice. They were brought up in the environment/culture and never bothered questioning it because they were too busy trying to make a living and babies. They profess a particular religion because their parents did and their parents before them etc.,etc. all the way back to when their medieval feudal lord won some battle or other against somebody else and declared to each of his subjects that henceforth they would all be catholic/protestant/muslim/whatever and they said "ok, fine. Now let's finish work and go home to make some babies"

The same fundamentalist christians would be avid followers of Allah if they were born in the middle east. Not because any particular philosophy/version of the truth is better but because it's theirs. Another fine example of tribalism at work

                    all very sad really

                    Surely we can move on?

Religion is on the increase..not the other way around. More than 50% of the UK would have creationism tought at school. And Science is on the decrease... they all want to study art and sociology

Dawkins and others would claim that Religion is in fact a virus of the mind... a meme i think they call it now , or something similar... i cant remember the exact word.

Spoken like a true Irish Catholic....who, same as me, would just like to forget about what we have learned from them and move on.

Would you tell every Thai you meet that Budda is bullshit?

                              so the story goes..........
"when asked about the question of if there is a god, Budda replied that the question is unimportant."

I thought Buddism was more about a way of life philosophy than an explanation of how and why we are hear. Not having read to much on the subject i am ready to be enlightened.

I don't discuss religion with most people I meet

but there are some out there that know my views on the matter. I don't, of course, use words like bullshit - it is possible to disagree with someone without being rude and offensive. I am not a teenager
