The biggest threat to the USA

that war pacman predicts will be out-sourced to pakistan, but since that's not on this thread's list i had to go with taliban as closest option. although i could've gone with fox news, it's not *really* fox news who'll start the war, they'll just be the fomenters who turn a hand-delivered A-bomb into a massive retaliation which will truly destroy "the world as we know it". i do think the '1 billion people left standing' figure is a mite high.

in the meantime snick's got a point that if you're talking tv networks, the complicit silence (except for the sounds of lips smacking asses) that had cnbc ignoring all the signs of impending disaster while screaming 'buy buy buy' for the last decade only to now brazenly claim that "anyone" should have seen the end coming and it's not their fault that their audience didn't read between the lines to see houses couldn't *really* sell for 10-20 times the average yearly wage has to be recognized as a more (successfully) powerful force for destruction, at least at the moment.

besides, if i want to watch fox news, i turn to 'the daily show' -- jon stewart always has the best clips ready to go and the rest is banal redundancy.

i personally believe that we shall not see another global conflict such as ww2,all major economies are so reliant on eachother as opposed to say 60 yrs ago for economic and others reasons that to bite at anyone would be to bite the hand that feeds,most countries posture now but will lead to little else.
however the real danger countries if any are n korea,pakistan,iran.these by there very nature can lead to rifts between superpowers.
i believe not war will be our undoing,more probable is desease,global pandemics such as bird flu which by the way we are right at the very edge of happening,the odds are it will happen ..........the scientist in the know admit its not if but when............when it strikes it will be more devastating than armed conflict and will know no borders..............global warming,again we are right on the tipping point of huge climate change which will cause crop failure desease economic failure and conflict,...............natural earth destructive force such as earthquake/volcanoe,again we are due and on the edge of massive eruptions such as magma plumes which are vast,which happen periodically in earths history,the futures not bright no,we could be in the latter stages of human life on earth,we are only one species to be here, others have come and gone before us,others lasted longer than mayby we will,why do humans have to be so special as to outlast all others?

The biggest threat to World peace is the likely disintegration of Pakistan. Within 2 years we could have a nuclear bomb under the control of the Taleban and the mad mullahs.

The biggest threat to America is America, their constant world policeman and only we can do the job attitude.

I was in Singapore some years ago (Early Bush) and the 5th Fleet had arrived on a friendship visit, the young marines were firkin brainwashed into thinking everyone they met wanted to live in America. Boy were they surprised when a few of us informed them we had no such desires then or for the future.

Also the attitude of the Americans towards the Singaporeans (Chinese & Malays) was,

1.we are protecting your freedom so you owe us big style.

2. You are not American, or white so you are a lesser being.

Now don't get me wrong here, i know some Americans who are the nicest people you could ever wish to meet but when you are represented by that shallow self arrogance you are gonna be a target for all. Also your politicians don't help you out either.

I expect someone will flame us for our opinions but we are saying what you have been thinking for ages.

That is exactly right, thaibound. If you want actual analysis and critique you will not find it on regular TV "news". The comedians, it seems are the only ones asking difficult questions and challenging the status quo.

Would you give up that freedom....I think not. In a democracy, if you want change, then you have to act....get off your couch...turn off the television....stop blaming Fox News for the problems....they are not to blame....it's you...the whimpy 50% of the electorate who sit on their fat asses watching John Stewart and whining about what's wrong.
