Well, SamplerDocs thread has become a billboard for the 'law' and how it affects us when we travel to Thailand, especially Bangkok and Pattaya.
Do YOU know what the law is and do you know what will happen to you when you get caught on the wrong side of it?
Maybe you do and maybe you don't and maybe you just don't care.
It's been suggested that this forum isn't doing enough to (try to) make sure that some of the more popular bars are doing enough to make sure we don't get into trouble. The issue is mainly about going with girls and ladyboys who aren't yet 18.
It's also been suggested that bars that don't follow the laws that will protect us should be sanctioned on the forum so that they will (if they want to post here) make an effort to attract our custom with more honest means.
Some members argue that this is the way Pattaya is and you should do your own homework to avoid possible trouble and that the responsibility lies with the buyer, not the seller.
It's a controversial issue and I hope I've presented this poll in a balanced and fairminded way...
The choices are...
Stay out of it... You'll live longer.
Basically it's my neck on the chopping block and I know all the bar owners. So when the hammer falls it falls on me and noone else. So I'm obviously reluctant to make unenforcable demands that are gonna get me ostracised from this country/bar scene (or even worse!)
It's not the jurisdiction of the forum.
Do you feel that the forum does have a role to play when it comes to badgering the bars to operate within the law? Do you think that if we DO take a stand that the bars that we 'name and shame' will actually change the way they do business?
Stick to presenting the facts.
Are we doing enough already without the need for more heavy handed involvement. The forum is already open to people who can voice their opinions and experiences. Is this enough to educate our members so they avoid the traps?
Take a more active role with the bars.
Maybe we could take a more positive role with the bars and ask them nicely to do their best to make sure we avoid risky situations. Not as silly as it sounds as more and more bars use 'niche marketing' like this forum to sell their products.
Take responsibility for the members and do something!
Have we been letting you down by not doing enough? Do you think that we (me, mainly) are too heavily in favour of the bars and are turning a blind eye to somethings?
Should we get tough and start deleting threads which bar owners are posting to advertise their special nights and new girls, etc? Will this just piss them off or make them rethink about the way they take us for granted?
I'm not sure. Erm... well!
Well... if you have any thoughts and ideas then please post them. I'll wait for a few to appear before I add my own thoughts.
