i really don't see what the fuss is here- customer service in thailand is erratic (i.e. bad). the OP shouldn't have offered the full amount- pay her lowest short time rate and thats it.
girls have their reasons to lie, just don't let them take us for mugs! however full credit to u for bringing the issue up especially in the bar.

Training a Thai in Western ways? Guffaw...that's like attempting to teach an old dog some new tricks, and I think we all know how the joke ends. Face it, the girls who work the bars are on the bottom rung of the ladder in society. Most of them are country hicks moving to the big city to make some dosh. The few that have any wits about them are few and far between, and no, just because some girl has a degree from a paper mill of a university I don't count that.

Here's the easy answer... (and it's one that I use because I like to go 'long time'...)

If you arrange on a price for long time then arrange one for short time at the same time. You can say...

"OK... I want to go with you Long Time for 2,000 Baht, OK? If YOU want to go short time then it's 500 Baht, OK?"

This way the rules are very clear and you have left the girl the option with her knowing the consequences of her actions. So - no surprises for her and no financial loss for you. (Offering her the whole amount and hoping she'd take only what was fair was a bit... shall we say... ambitious!)

Time and time again I stress the importance of being clear and upfront with these devious and often sly playthings, and short of a written agreement, you are screwed if you do NOT explain clearly what you are expecting out of an encounter.

One thing about The Guess Bar... Unfortunately for the owner of the bar she will have to absorb the flak and take some responsibility for the actions of her staff. This is because she has chosen to seperate herself from the shit-pits by promising an altogether different kind of experience. She's also known amongst most of the people who go there which is also unusual for these kinds of bars.

When we go to the shit-pits we are not surprised when we are hussled and ripped off. We are constantly on our guard against this happening and as a result we don't stay too long.

In The Guess Bar; the atmosphere invites you to enjoy the bar as well as the delights on offer inside it. If you don't like the music they will change it and if you get ripped off the bar owner will listen and react in a professional way. We are very quickly getting to a point where we not only expect this kind of service from The Guess Bar but we demand it and react in a negative way when it doesn't happen.

I can't see us posting a similar story about any other girl working in any other bar, because - let's face it - the shitpits don't give a flying fuck and we kind of half expect it to happen anyway!

Let's at least keep our expectations down to a realistic level and let the new bar (which is still only a few weeks old, don't forget) get settled.

On the upside though, sounds like Jay handled it properly and will no doubt have a chat with Fern and suggest that she is more open with what she is able to do and not able to do - of course Thai BF's are not uncommon - but she needs to be more honest with what she can do and not do and not mislead someone into thinking something is available when in all honesty its not - again thats another Thai trait, where they tell you what you want to hear, not what they are able to deliver.

mardhi, i think we are in total accord here. jay is, i believe, handling it just as i had hoped, by explaining to fern that she must not promise what she will not deliver. the reason for my post (besides to vent a bit, lol) was to be sure my compatriots don't get misled in the meantime - or in case jay's lesson fails.

the whole "thai truth" thing remains problematic, but something as clearcut as promising to stay and then leaving without warning i believe contradicts even that foggy ethic.

i do wish i had known more about fern's situation beforehand, in which case i probably would not have arranged for an overnight, and our shorttime "evening" together would have been damn near perfect. yet another reason to share with one another as much as possible -- without betraying any intimacies or confidences. knowing a girl's proclivities with regard to shorttime vs longtiime can be *especially* helpful in maximizing one's time and money and minimizing disappointment.

i hope this thread is seen in that light -- as it was intended. an accidental TOFTT if ever there was one about a cute good-for-ST girl from an excellent bar.

Thanks for sharing the info about Fern and I think Jay dealt with it well when you spoke to her about it, so hopefully she will "have a chat" to fern and it won't happen with others.

The same things happened to me once with a GG I bar fined from Morning & Night Bar a year ago. I had seen W the previous night and flirted with her quite a bit but I had to go to meet some friends so couldn't bar fine her there and then but did go back the following night and as soon as I saw W paid bar on the spot! She was happy as a pig in shit and to be honest so was I!

We had a drink in her bar then got a taxi to another bar to meet up with a freind of mine and play some pool. In the taxi W was all over me like a rash and kept wanting to "go hotel now", the same happened while we were playing pool, so I should have known what was coming!

After a couple of beers / pool games we headed back to the hotel and she all but raped me in the lift much to the enjoyment of the security cam operators I guess! In the room it was hit the bed and shag. She was good but not as good as the build up had been suggesting.

When we finished, she got up, didn't even shower, dressed, said she had to go and demanded 3000 baht! It wasn't even midnight!!!! I gave her 1500 and told her to piss off which she obligingly did! I had a shower and went back out and bar fined a very sweet girl from the Hilary Bar who was a real gem!

But to get back to Fern again, would have given her 1000 and shown her the door.

Agreed Stogie and I guess it opens the old thread about whether you should agree a tip etc up front or just tip as you feel appropriate in the morning - or when ever she decides to leave! Personally I always use the latter and have never had any screaming girls / LB's that I have had to get security to remove as I always pay fairly but not over the top, but it is up to the individual how they decide to deal with the tipping situation.
