Lots of good valid points here on both sides. However I think Brit is unneccessarly ringing the alarm bells here. There will always be tourists and japs in LOS overpaying as there is the cheapies. But at the end of the day it's not us or the above who will determine the price hikes. Prices will always keep rising in every country in the world.

I believe just 10 years ago LT was standard 500bt in the Thermae. But as time goes by all prices rise and wages rise. No one can control that. Ok so you pay $10.00 more for ST than you did 2 years ago. Well so what. Has not our salaries gone up as well? At least in Thailand they seem to have only gone up in ratio to cost of living.

If the ST and LT prices ever go up to 5k and 10k respectively in wont are because of overpaying customers. The reasons have been covered pretty much in this thread for me to repeat them.

But I tell you what will really bring them up to that level. Basically 2 factors. First if there is a huge cultural change in Thai society more in the poorer class where is it not ok to be hooker or bar girl. That is less girls take on the profession and supplies dry up. This is not very likely. And then the 2nd factor which would be more likely is if the Thai economy becomes stronger. GNP rises, greater acceleration in cost of living and higher wages.

If there was to be a big overnight boom in the Thai economy and there are plenty of jobs available and all of sudden Thai factory workers, restaurant workers, shop staff and those at the lower end of the work place (see Billy's table) were getting 50k a month which is what top end bargirls make on average. Then ST and LT would rise. Otherwise why be a bargirl when you can get a less pressure job at the same wage and hang out with your mates at night where they want to hang out rather than hang out in a bar or street corner.

This is what happened in Singapore and Hong Kong and Japan before hand. But again this not very likely to happen in the foreseeable future. So I can only see prices going up in relation to inflation.

The other question raised is getting value for money. In my view there is no set procedure here. It all depends on the on the make up and chemistry of you and the girl. What I do on my part to make it a positive experience is first of all knowing I am in fantasy land. It's my holiday. I know I am never going to have a relationship with a bargirl or pleasure worker (no disrespect to you guys who do, it is just not me and I hate using the word whore or hooker). I may fall in love if I am having a good time for while it lasts where it be for 2 hours or a few days. Remember I am in a fantasy. So therefore I always pay at least the going rate plus tip. So far I have had to negotiate less and pay what I believe the going rate is. I do this by reading this board as well as others and it's not hard to determine. Then I make sure I dress presentable. I'm not a trendy bloke by all means but like to scrub up well. I also make a point of smelling nice too. I once had about 5 girls in a soi33 bar smelling my arms because I had a nice body spray on. Now some of you may rightfully be thinking the girls were just acting up. But think also that they would not be stupid enough to think I would bar fine all of them. And I also treat the girls the same as I would treat a girlfriend. I don't care who she is. And I like to stay in nice places. Hence the working environment SB mentioned.

So the result is they get to spend time with someone who is a nice guy in a nice hotel and I get an enthusiastic girl hopefully with GFE. Win win for both.

I don't delude myself when I get compliments I know its all part of the game. I do like to think that they come with me rather than the next guy for the reasons above. So next time when some if you charmers think how the girl loves you, think that she may only rather be with you than some bad mannered smelly guy even if he if paying the same price. Remember look after yourself first. And I always tell them I have been to Thailand 5 times and act confidently.

The above is what in my opinion only brings some degree of respect. Even if they don't remember you the next day.

Remember it's all about sanuk in LOS. If it costs a few extra dollars. I don't care.

I am puzzled by the idea some people have that Japanese are "suckers" because they overpay girls.
