Phuket hotels

has anyone heard of the Avantika Boutique hotel in Phuket?

It's beautiful. At the southern, QUIET, end of Patong Beach, right across the street from the beach. The beach where you catch the longtailboats to ride around the peninsula to Freedom Beach, a beautiful get-away for snorkeling and lazing about.
But if you do stay there, stay AT LEAST on the second floor so your view is above the swimming pool.
The rooms are awesome, deluxe, but $$$$. If I went on an expense account I'd take the suite with the indoor/outdoor shower and sitting room with ocean view balcony. But it's gonna cost you 4500 thb and UP. WAY up.
The luxury will be wasted on the girls who seem to not much care what your room looks like, so unless you intend to spend some 'hometime' enjoying your palatial digs, you might want to stay at one of the 4stars a bit inland for 1/3 the cost and spend the rest on a couple ladyboys every night. And keep the change.

When travelling to phuket, do you book accomodation in advance or when you get there?

I'll be there in march and i've been looking on sites mentioned above and the rates seem dearer than discussed.

Pigdogg stayed there and liked it a lot. I tried to but they were full. I stopped and talked to the owner when I was there for future reference, he seemd like a very good guy, and will probably try to stay there again. It is one of the best buys in Paradise Complex, IMO. Other good buys in the PC, imo, look like The Blue Dolphin,

This was after spending part of one afternoon looking around at what else was available. I like the PC and will probably always try to stay there when in Phuket.

However, if one likes ladyboys, but is not comfortable staying in a strongly gay area then the PC would not be for them.

Have any of you ever stayed at the Absolut Sea Pearl Beach Resort in Patong? If so, how close is it to Cocktail and Dreams and the other Ladyboy Bars in Patong? Is the hotel guest friendly. I have a chance to get a good rate there but I want to be sure that it is close to the entertainment areas as its Webpage says it is. Any other suggestions to nice hotels at good rates near the bars? Thanks.

Great location. Rooms are much nicer than the pics, but get better than a standard room for much more space for an extra 100 baht or so. More like an apartment than a hotel.
No pool but u can use pool at Royal Paradise for 100 baht a day. In room safe.

Gunna be staying in Patong in just over 2 weeks for around 5/6 days, wanna book up a good hotel but sensible price (1500 - 2000 per night).... Requirements are:
* Safe place to stay and clean
* LB friendly
* No charge for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th (hehe) visitors
* Pool
* Within walkin distance of C&D's

Anyone got any decent suggestions, for a good hotel that is !
