  •      They are in the general direction but not near either Soi 6 or 7. Don't forget 6 & 7 are not exactly close, they are about a kilometre apart based on the time it took me to walk between them. 7 & 8 are very close, less than 100 metres apart.

One of the better hotels around Soi 6 is the Nova Gold where Titian stayed a few times when Om was still working in Soi 6. The rooms are nice with a balcony but it is still a brisk 5 minute walk to Soi 6. There is an older Nova place nearby plus a range of hotels & guesthouses. And there always is the Queen Victoria Inn right in Soi 6, probably not a good idea if you don't want the girls watching who you come & go with.

In Soi 8 there is the Sunshine Hotel & the Flipper Lodge, both places are regularly booked by different BMs here on the forum. And a few other hotels nearby, best to go back through this thread for info or try Trip Advisor for their list of Pattaya accommodation. There are plenty of places but the best ones do get booked first.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

    • (deepthroat @ Dec. 09 2010,11:38) Isn't...a couple of the LK hotels - LK Metro and maybe LK Renaissance - up that way?
      No...Soi DIana...also known as Soi 13...

      • (rxpharm @ Dec. 07 2010,22:06) The only problem I had was checking out and they claimed we used 2 bottles of Evian from the minibar - which wasn't true. Charged 140 Baht - I questioned it, but since we had to get back to Bkk, I paid up. Probably would be a good idea to request removing all minibar supplies on check in, and buy your own from the nearby 7/11 or Family Mart on Beach Road or 2nd Road. There is also a laundry just down the Soi towards Beach Road that charges a fraction of the hotel laundry prices.
Hotels that have minibars don't have the attitude "how can I make the customer experience better".

A packed fridge with shit I don't want at prices triple the 7/11 is not my idea of service.

I suppose the exception are hotels catering to the business traveller where the guest doesn't pay for the minibar and the cost is passed on to the guest's company.

Laundry? Who needs the hotel to be a middleman. Much more difficult to track down a missing item that way.

        • I went over to August Suites today and asked Tee and Paul about the opening of their new hotel APRIL SUITES. The opening is delayed but they're hoping to get at least 3 out of the 6 floors open by December 20th.

Paul took me over and gave me a tour of rooms. They are offering a Superior, Deluxe, and Suite. Pretty much the same as August. The rooms are nice albeit a wee bit smaller than similar rooms at August. There is a roof top pool with bar and fitness area. I like the overall feel of the place. I think the rooms rates will be cheaper than August. I suppose the only drawback is its location. The entrance is off of Second Road but set back deep into Soi 6. It is the same distance from Second Road to April as it is from Second Road to August on Pattaya Klang.

            • DT I will see you soon I think. Plane lands in LOS in 43 days. I also got a great price at the Grand Hotel, 9th floor with ocean view. Total cost of $58.00 per night was great. Now I just need to hook up ride from the airport. I have to find Aplle Taxi email. I decided the ocean view was worth the walk or bus ride to Soi Ladyboy.

I'll be there about 5 days before you so I'll break it in for you.

                      • It's not the most en vogue hotel anymore, but I gotta give ongoing props to the PBR.   :clap  Had yet another lovely stay there over the holidays.

At the airport, the driver was directly under the Exit 3 sign where he was supposed to be, easily recognizable through the throng in his dapper PBR shirt.     The car was Boem's own, the GM, and not more than a week old.  The driver as good as can be expected (he didn't even have to fill up on gas along the way   ).

One thing I really appreciate about the place is that they put their money back into the place.  Towels?  Brand new.  New shower head, new sheets.  Iron, hair dryer, hot water heater?  New, new, new.  Four free bottles of water a day.

I use a Mac, and I admittedly have some connectivity issues (but hey, who doesn't).  But Dr. Kim, the boss, himself is always on the good foot to get me sorted directly.  And he even managed to charm me in the process.

They were operating at 100% capacity (a testament to them) over the holidays, and still managed to find me a room for a late check-out on my departure day, upgrading me to a suite, and only charging me the basic rate.

But my favorite thing about the place is the front-desk girls.  I love them!  They are such dolls and always take care of me (I paid no deposits of any kind, for the room or the rentals).  And there's nothing like sending a girl down to them to collect her ID and go, and them ringing you up to make sure all is well, and then, in front of her, cooing in the phone, "Thank you, Farangbah!"  Love them.

Yeah, it ain't the newest or coolest, but it remains a great place, and the Pattaya Bay Resort has earned my business for at least another visit . . .

                        • I have only ever stayed at 2 hotels in Pattaya. The Dynasty Inn on S13/1 and then after about 10 stays there I tried the PBR (my first stay was for the Big Bash and I have stayed there 3 or 4 times since).

Given how unadventurous that is, plus a few negative PBR comments from others, I was going to try a different hotel for my next visit in April / May.

Your post has reminded me of my past, reasonably positive, experiences and has me thinking...............

There ain't no reason to reinvent the wheel...If you like the PBR stay there...Good location, nice rooms and fair pricing...

Just because someone may have had a bad experience there doesn't mean much...You can find bad comments on about every place to stay in Pattaya...

I used to stay there regularly when I visited short-time from BKK...Now that I stay in Pattaya for months on end it's not a good choice...They only offer the small room at a monthly rate...The larger rooms with kitchens and sitting areas are only on a daily rate...Seems kinda back assward to me...Go figure...

                            • Update on a couple of hotels.

As usual I booked at PBR, and feeling in need of some ease after a long haul trip I booked their car. It was OK but the driver left me standing for 15 minutes while he recovered his car from the multi-storey so not too smooth. And I should have seen that price of Bt1300 was VAT not included. Not much extra but still I did not expect it. It's quite clear on their web site let me say.

On arrival they told me they did not have the de luxe I'd ordered so had upgraded me to mini suite; which was a nice surprise.

The downside was that there is a new building going up at the left hand end of the hotel a few metres away between the hotel and the road. In the three days I was there they were stripping metal formwork from the second storey columns, so lots of metal banging but nothing serious. However I decided not to stay on - pouring the next floor slab would make daytime a misery. Expect this for the next year, and ask for a room at the other end!

                              Downsides of the room:
                              a) I hate showers in baths. I don't recollect that in the deluxe?
                              b) the room safe is pathetically small. Too small even for an iPad (my new test of minimum size, along with my DSLR).

But I do like their breakfasts and the friendly service that goes with it. And their proximity to the supermarket (though it now closes 0100-0600).

So I decided to follow another recommendation and booked in to the Grand in Soi 14 off Walking Street: 9th floor deluxe room. The room safe is a sensible size. The bath is worse as the shower head is supported only at groin height. Very Thai.

Don't believe that being on the 9th floor means there is no noise. True if you come back at 2am rat-arsed you won't notice it. But otherwise the music goes on til 3am and some nights is a heavy base you get. Quiet during the day though and I've got a view of the sea.

Breakfast is so-so - help yourself. The sign by the lift says "no outside food or drink" Yeah right! and "Please use hotel laundry". Right, when the laundry shop is about 5m outside their door!

And there is a weird smell, which I can't track down and it comes and goes. (Maybe it's because I won't use their laundry!).

I've still got a few days to provide for. Who's up for another current recommendation? (PBR is full! I checked).
