okay, with the penthouse apparently all bugged out, i'm officially sold on the sunshine. so tell me - is there good value in stepping up to the new wing and the bigger room? or not worth the difference?

i'm looking forward to spending the second week of May in May. if i can find her... hmmm enjoying the may sunshine. in the Sunshine. in May.

Whitehouse Condotel, basic rooms are about 1,300 baht/night and have large, spacious, and clean rooms that include a good size TV, refrigerator, and small deck. Staff is friendly and the place is well located on Soi 13.

This place looks great. So many places in Pattaya are just itred and jaded, but this place looks a little more "modern".

In room safe and unlimited ADSL access for 1300 per night......sounds like a deal to me!!

we may well see each other there, if you fancy a Singha or 20, , the last time i stayed at the Penthouse it was over priced ( for Thailand ) staff were very indifferent, & I got bitten to hell, & checked out early.

Sunshine Residence does not really have views, but then so what, try to get as high up as possible, then your ears might just survive the Techno onslaught from about 1600hrs onwards. If you look at my "23 nights in the LOS" trip report for pattaya there are some pics taken in the room. For me the price difference wasn't worth worrying about, but if you are on a budget, there isn't that much difference in the rooms, facilities are roughly the same from what I could see.

Last time Snick, Socrates, Monkeyman, and I visited Pattaya together we stayed there and coincidentally had sequential rooms on the same floor. I bet the staff thought there was some sort of LB convention that night. Anyways, basic rooms are about 1,300 baht/night and have large, spacious, and clean rooms that include a good size TV, refrigerator, and small deck. Staff is friendly and the place is well located on Soi 13. One word of warning, there is an 800 baht fee to bring more than one guest for the night.

Anyway to get in and out of the hotel with a LB without having to walk through the lobby and/or deal with security?

I know where your coming from on this one - I real dislike it when you walk through a hotel lobby with a ladyboy - often in her slutty bar dress. Stares and half concealed amusement all round.
I have stayed in a few hotels in pattaya but cant think of one where you can avoid the security and the lobby.
Although late at night is when I normally take a LB to my room there are few people about.

I am afraid the gawping giggling masses are everywhere, I just see them as the uninitiated who aren't really having any fun & are jealous that you are. I personally have no problem in marching right by them, this "walk of shame" deal doesn't cut it with me anymore. Especially if its westerners towing there fat ugly hippo's along with them. Then laughs are on me.

Whitehouse is my favorite. But Soi 13 also has 6 other good hotels, ranging from 800-1500 Baht, and the location is perfect.

They claim to have "Deluxe Sea View" rooms on the upper floors of the new wing and are charging 350-400 Bath more a night for these rooms. Is it another scam?

No its not a scam, there are rooms with excellent views, but they are all on the upper floors, I am in one myself at this very moment. I always go for the upper floors as its a bit quieter, but as I don't usually make it back to the room before 0300hrs the noise factor doesn't really bother me. Thaibound is also in the same hotel at the moment, his room also has excellent views, even from the shower! I can't really complain about this hotel.
