PATTAYA: -- Sixteen people have been injured in a devastating lift accident at the Welcome Jomtien Hotel in Pattaya on Saturday.
      Sixteen people...That's a ton of people...literally a ton...

Is that the huge hotel right at the beginning of Jomtien Beach Road?

      • (pacman @ Jul. 25 2010,08:04) Only the hotels that have installed large water tanks are able to cope with the water shortage here in Pattaya. Having the water cut off with no notice is very inconvenient.

Just  another reason why I like to stay at the Penthouse.

As for noise issues, the double glazed windows here are very effective at keeping the noise out. I would not like the thin walls of the PBR, having to listen to the guy pounding the bed all night in the next room is not for me.
My only real complaint about the Penthouse is that I always want a room with lots of windows and natural light. A beach view of course is usually high on my list but that hasn't turned out to be possible in LB friendly properties in Pattaya.

The Penthouse rooms I've been in had little or no natural light and usually only a single grimy window with a view onto Boyszone.

They're great if you want a stripper pole and sex swing as well as all the garrish fittings of a puerto rican brothel though!

        •    There are at least 10 rooms with a balcony here, nice to sit out on with a cup of tea.

And don't knock the view of Boyztown, I see things happening across the soi that you wouldn't mention in polite company.

Unless you are offended by that sort of thing, in which case you may be on the wrong forum...

           as well...

I am starting to appreciate why the management here feels so picked on. The windows are not grimy but what a wonderful adjective to make the place sound seedy.

            • I think management may feel picked upon because some of us (myself definitely included) bristle at the ongoing "touting" of the hotel.

Pacman, it's great that you like the place, but when you start going on about the water shortage as yet another reason to want to stay at the hotel it crosses the line to "pimping the hotel".

I love your reporting on the girls and events, but for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I want to support all of the local establishments just as much as the next guy (and perhaps more than some if previous posts are any measure) but when the line gets crossed into gratuitous plugs on flimsy grounds, it's hard not to take a swing. I was surprised you didn't jump in on the Jomtien elevator collapse with a comment about how safe and readily accessible the stairways are in the Penthouse, and how it's limited height makes it safer than other hotels in Pattaya!

I normally agree with you 110% on most topics, and defer to your wisdom, experience and sound judgement in most cases, but this just seemed a bit over-the-top. The Penthouse shouldn't need manufactured benefits, it has more than enough on it's own merits and has plenty of admirers and great management.

My connection with the Penthouse is no secret & I am very conscious of sounding like a running advertisement for the place.

The Administrators of this site know I get some consideration here in exchange for promoting a few of the Obsessions girls & I figure that as long as I can contribute something to the forum, a few positive plugs will pass by unscathed. I know what fire & brimstone I would cause to shower down upon me should I cross the line & sprout off about the place all the time. Examination of my posts should confirm I don't.

It is a perfect metaphor for life actually - we are all indulging in a bit of mutual backrubbing with no one being seriously imposed upon. Except one & I don't quite know how I am to address Deepthroat's complaint. Not for the first time my mention of the hotel has ruffled his feathers.

I enjoy his posts as much as he says he likes mine. And I appreciate his endorsement of my posts. Thanks for the kind words DT, now I have to make a serious point regarding the Pattaya water supply & the Penthouse.

I just checked when the last time the zone that the hotel sits in had the water cut off. It was for 2 days during Songkran. The time before that was 2 days over New Year. It has been a problem for years with far too many hotels & condos being allowed than the water supply could ever hope to supply.

Most of the smaller hotels have no reserve water so when the supply is cut, it is an immediate problem & when it is reconnected, it takes at least a day before there is any water pressure & what there is brown & unusable.

The Penthouse was able to cope without interruption thanks to 4 tanks of 6000 litres each under the building & 9 smaller tanks on the roof - a total of nearly 30,000 litres of filtered clean water.

But that will not be enough for anticipated shortages in the future. Plans are proceeding to increase capacity to 100,000 litres soon.

And seeing how this is the Pattaya hotel thread, I asked how others coped. Not well apparantly with the Penthouse picking up guests from hotels all over Pattaya. Including hotels mentioned in this thread.

So rather than a pimping post to score cheap points, I think I raised a valid point about something that could spoil a holiday. And future cuts are expected to be more prolonged given the drought that lingers on here in Chonburi.

                  • (katoeylover @ Jul. 25 2010,22:54) How many hotels have water issues?
Every last one of them. I am told the big places with over 500 rooms have bought (or leased) wells way north of here & run their own trucks all year round to maintain supply & pressure.

                      A cheap shot...

Even I have principles but there is one comment I want to make about this. Elevators don't just fall. Not when they are properly maintained. And maintenance is something that is just not being done by cash strapped hotel owners.

There are examples everywhere here of the results of no up-keep. This was an avoidable tragedy that should never have happened.

I will let you draw your own conclusions as to how things may differ here (at the hotel that dares not speak its name) & leave it at that.

I feel very sorry for the victims & I don't wish to offend anyone by sounding like I want to capitalise on the misfortunes of others.

                      • Just curious.....is wishywashy still suggesting that 24- hour maid service is a GOOD thing at this establishment, or ANY hotel?

I'd prefer a place where the maids do their work and go home at a normal hour like 5 or 6pm, not hanging around cleaning up cum stains all night.

Try August Suites off Pattaya 2 road;  I've only spent 3 nights in Pattaya in the past 3 years but this lovely hotel made even that city bearable for a weekend.

                          • I've actually gotten a bit tired of the PBR (the problems getting the computer to work in the Presidential Suite on the last stay were the last straw) so I'm going to try something different next trip. I'm leaning towards the LK Renaissance at this time, but am also still considering the Areca Lodge and August Suites.

                            • Believe me, go August Suites! I have tried the LKR and contrary to theGame's experience (where they treat him like a King) the rest of us are treated like something else. I checked out Areca and it looks interesting however if you are in a itchy hurry it can be a long walk to your room while wading through an audience.

                              •  The LKR is an excellent Hotel IMHO and I was treated very well there as well

I enjoyed very much my stay at the Areca Lodge too and why worry about the audience   , nobody gives a damm

The Buffet Breakfast is great and the Bacon awesome

But as long as Bernie is in charge of Pars Place (opposite the LK Pavillion) that will be the choice for me from now on, superb value @ 700 baht per night
