i got approx 17.5K bonus miles (in addition to 1 mile for every dollar spent) for the Chase card (after 1 year transfered it to another card without an annual fee).  60 bucks

i got a Chase business card for approx 17.5K miles same deal as above.  60 bucks

opened a Netbankaccount.. No fees 9K miles.

put 10 grand in a Fidelity account .  15K miles.

Free trip for 120 bucks in annual fees.

The free trip is for Bagkok AND Bali booked about four months in advance.  And flying Sing instead of crappy United.

Hey DP, I know you're making the big bucks and would rather use your miles for upgrades              but  there are guys out there who could be coming to the LOS for FREE instead of    at home or paying for Western hookers.

This is my second trip to BKK and Bali using FF miles.  You gotta work the phones and a friendly United rep can make it happen.

      PD,

i am sure you can do this in the States but have never seen anything like it in Europe.

Secondly, as i said i am sure you can do it cheaper, this was just my costs for a no hassle trip, the way i like it.

Hey KL, I think you got GREAT value for your money, that's quite the villa.

Just didn't want a guy with 80K baht to spend on vacation think that is was not doable.

          Point taken.

it belongs to my mate and i get a very good deal!!

don't you think though that if you are travelling that distance you should know how much it will cost realistically.

On a first trip it is likely you will have to pay 2k for a s/t in bkk, get overcharged at least once, and do all the tourist things during the day.

I just didn't want anyone thinking it was a cheap holiday!!

think Pattaya gives the biggest bang for the buck and would recomend a newbie concerned about costs to go straight to Pattaya from the airport.

4000 baht a day is not unrealistic for Pattaya. of course you can spend more if your doing threesomes everyday.

I'm not advocating doing a vacation on the cheap though. Since airfare is such a big percentage of the
cost of a one or two week trip, no sense depriving yourself once your there.

i just wish i knew about Pattaya in the days that i was almost broke.

Hey KL... What you spent on holiday is what I spend on rent... every 3 years and 4 months!
So I guess you are good for a loan. Can you handle a few thousand. I promise i will pay it back.

It should be mentioned that you can alway do this once. Most of these offers with Chase, Netbank, Fidelity, etc... have provisions where you can earn promo points/miles once per person - no matter if you try to take advantage of promotions with say another airline or hotel chain.

I wouldn't necessarily advise people to go this route, because as I've said before, its getting harder and harder to redeem travel awards, especially if you go for the 'saver' awards that require less miles.

Also, I know the Netbank and Fidelity both require you to put XXX dollars with them for a certain period of time. In the case of Fidelity it's $10,000. And there's also other small details here too, like you have to keep your account open for a year, the miles won't post right away, etc... Additionally, not sure if opening up two additional lines of credit you don't need, just to earn miles, is the best idea.

                      Just some food for thought.

ok lol Now me... My Last trip.

Flights thai airways economy £642 = Heathrow-Bkk-Phuket-Bkk-Heathrow + 2nites hotel in Phuket 2 hotel in Bkk but didnt use hotel in bkk.

                        Phuket hotels - 1100baht x 3 = 3300baht

                        Bkk Hotels - 1300baht x 3 = 3900baht

                        Pattaya Hotels 700baht x 7 = 4900baht

                        DVD Rental Pattaya= 100baht x 7 = 700baht

                        Motorcycle Rental Pattaya = 1000baht x 7 = 7000Baht

Fines from the boys in brown   = 4000Baht

                        Tatoos = 4000Baht

Transfers Phuket = 1000baht both ways

                        Transfers Bangkok = 600Baht

Transfers Pattaya = 2500Baht Both Ways

Average spending for everything you can dream of, thats girls, food, drink, petrol, bar fines, clothes, dry cleaning, dvds blah blah blah an average of 6800baht a day. Over 14days Had to cut my trip short as i had to come home from stuff...
                        14 x 6800 = 95200baht

So all in all for my 2 weeks i spent 127100baht = £1815 + £642 for flight = £2458 Which is spot on for me, as i always plan to spend around £100 a day on fun food etc, and all the hotels go on cards.    The saving has begun for September.

Be prepared to spend 3K+ a day just on the girld and bars.
This is what i try and explain to my friend as they think that this place is dirt cheap and u can have fun for £10s a day... I mean u can do if u drink chang all day and wank all nite, but if u wana have fun, it costs

That's about what I spend too - a little more on hotels maybe and a little less on DVD (rentals?? are you sure? never heard of that before. You normally buy them  for B100 on the street!)
I do an easy calculation for my Thailand trips that always works:
B 10k/d incl. everything: girls, shopping, food, hotel (which is always between 3-4k), etc.
Plus local airfares and the flight, which's between ‚¬600-900 - depends on the season and how early you book.
Still a lot of cash for a few weeks, but on the other hand you also get a lot.... actually far more than anywhere else for your money - that's why you still spend far more in the end than at home.
Especially when the candy is 50% off in the store - you might buy 300% more......
So I still don't get it why everybody is moaning about the hookers prices at home, when people (including myself) are spending always a little fortune in "oh so cheap" LOS (always wondered where the fuck does that come from???).

Hey MK, the DVD Rentals is for the DVD player, not all the rooms have one so for an extra £1.30p/100baht you can have one in your room.
