Will have to research if the Skytrain now originates at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The timing of this luggage extra charges is bad. Should be trying to figure out how to restore tourism first. I think discounts will be the first answer.

We took the skytrain from the airport to downtown in 2015 already. There is no charge for extra bags because you have to just take your bags on the train.
The train was not express and stopped at every stop. The train got so crowded that it was almost impossible to get off at my stop.
Not recommended unless you have no baggage.
If you take the train from downtown Bangkok to the airport you can check your bags straight to your airline for selected companies.Comment

The BTS Skytrain does not originate at Suvarnabhumi Airport, there is an airport rail link that connects to BTS Skytrain Phayathai station and the MRT underground at Makkasan City Interchange Station.
I have used this a few times, but only when having little or no baggage - particularly when using the BTS Skytrain if you arrive during rush hour the trains will be full making it extremely difficult to get out with your luggage at the right stop. It's less expensive and faster than a taxi. There are 6 stops between the airport and Phayathai Station and it takes around 30 minutes for the trip.

When I first took the City Airport Rail Link, there were 2 options a non-stop express or the regular city line. They dropped the non-stop express as it was not popular as it cost about 80 Baht more and was only around 15 minutes faster.Originally posted by Crag Rockheart View Post

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll still have to take the taxis at the bottom floor of Suvarnabhumi. Don't take the taxis on the same floor of the luggage claims. I've read that's where the ripoff drivers snare you by not turning on the meter. But most of the driver's are normal honest people. Some driver's will take out their cell phones and photograph you, your luggage, the empty trunk, back and front seats for good records. I was impressed and did tip them more. Always happy to arrive at my destinations safe and sound whether by taxi or motoscooter taxis. I was just joking. I do tip generously everywhere I go. Thais are paid so poorly and have families to support. Thai waitresses are so happy to see me because they know I tip B100. Why that's only US$3.00. So I won't argue with taxi drivers who might be embarassed to explain the extra charges for oversized luggage or extra ones. Just remembered Honolulu taxi drivers already do the same. I do max out on luggage sizes and weight because I stay 2 months at a time. The 18-hours flight times from Honolulu is uncomfortably long. Thanks to Orbitz I can avoid fares over $800 and flight times longer than 24 hours. Right now almost all airlines have stopped and a few European airlines charge $2-3K! We should all tip generously. We are rich and they so poor. Filipino basic pay is $5 a day, Brazilians $5 a dia, Thailanders $3-4 for 12-hours days and NO overtime at all. I read there was a British trying to organize a worker's union, and he was jailed. Now released. Sounds like Hawaii during the early days of slave plantation years of the 1940's under Dole and Del Monte pineapple and sugar plantings. Unionist risked job losses and jail. Now everybody lives much better and healthier.
As for the increasingly overcrowded Skytrains during rush hours I hope they solve the problem with more trains, more frequent pickups. You should see how jam packed the train every Saturday and Sunday morning when I want to visit Chatuchat (Jatujak) Flea Market. Everybody wants to go there. Canned sardines It's like the old New Year's Sunshine Crater Festival we used to have inside the Diamond Head Crater. Everybody of all ages would come and just groove out. Maybe after the C pandemic Bangkok should have one huge daytime bash in one of their nice parks. Great way to start off every new year with a smile. And get to see who lives in Bangkok.Comment

Bangkok taxis only have enough room in the trunk for one suitcase. You can get a van but it may cost more.
The new system on the main floor is much better than before because you take a ticket and everything is tracked.
You still have the option of getting another driver if the one you have is trying to gouge you.
Probably the would not charge the average person. This is probably more for those you see arriving from Saudi Arabia with dozens of pieces of luggage or something.Comment

This happens in many countries, but very random who get searched. Wouldn't worry about it. I have tons of porn on my computer and I travel with work to 50+ countries a year. If you photo ladyboys or girls always make sure you photo their ID's. A lot of my dates look way younger than 21. I did but the real reason they wanted to see my porn because they're porn addicts. You could also load one of the last Apps to transfer your photo to your PC. I am talking of messenger apps that allow you to do so. I have one with a laptop version installed in both my PC and my phone. One of the "friends" account is a file transfer account. Now I have no longer problems to transfer files from or to my PC and my phone, either bluetooth or WIFI is tricky or not. I can do it from my home but also from my hotel room at the other side of the world.
To put it blankly, I don't believe that custom officers will search micro SD or SD cards. Only the police is likely to search my hard disk if they have good reasons to suspect I upload pedophile pics.Comment

They don't need to search memory cards or phones. They can just copy them because they use Solid State memory.
Last time i came back from Thailand, Canadian customs took my laptop, my phones and my cameras and memory cards for a few minutes and brought them back.
So the obviously had some way to quickly copy them. My laptop had an SSD hard drive but also a regular spinning hard drive.
Without my laptop turned on they may be able to copy the SSD drive. However the regular SATA drive needs to be running and spinning to retrieve data.
If you have a password protection on the files that they want to see, they will get it from you or you won't be going anywhere.
