Since the take up of 'net books' there are now more flavours than in an ice cream factory.
For downloading they are fine - connecting to the internet and managing the speed of the WWW is something that any computer can do easily but the strain of downloading on the fan and hard drive may be a test of stamina for your new machine.
If you do decide to do this then buy a cheap external HHD for the downloads.
