I have a little background in this & agree with the guys above for the most part. Do it in your, or somebody's, quiet home where there is little street or other ambient noise. The key is, as mentioned, deadening the sound reflections with "walls" of fabric (movers' blankets are excellent) defining the "studio" perimeter & having separate mics for each guest with a narrow(cardioid) pick up pattern, I disagree with the suggestion for a 360 degree pattern mic unless the you want the sound to be like a teleconference.
It would also help to have a multi channel mixer not used with an automatic gain but learn to ride the levels manually.
Does Chatauchak have good deals on stuff like this? Recording right into your pc is key so check the mixer has a usb/firewire output.

I've ordered the Snowball and will do a practice run with that to check the sound quality.

If I'm not happy with it I'll do the three mic and mixer route.

Chatuchak... I think you mean Pantip, right? But maybe I've missed something.

The Snowball is a cardioid pickup pattern and works best for a single speaker directly in front of it. It's really great for broadcast voice recording, but you're not going to get a good result if you try to use it to capture a group of people sitting around a table.

You're going to have to use multiple mikes and a mixer to get a broadcast quality recording of multiple voices, even if internet broadcast is what you're talking about. There's just no other way.

El hefe is on about this, except that Chatuchak does not[/b] have such things. There's a place in Pantip but it's not good. Try Music Solutions down the street.

Do get some sound deadening up. 'Concrete shoebox' rooms in Thailand are really bad.

If you want to check out a pro facility, go to <paradisepi.com/>. The "Town in Town" scene is interesting anyway. There are a lot of facilities here for video and film, as well as sound.

A very good connection for you would be an American named Kenny Jackel. I don't have his direct contact info at hand, but you can reach him via [URL=http://www.linkedin.com/pub/6/76/aa9[/URL] He's been dealing pro audio gear in Bangkok for about 20 years.

Stogie, saw something interesting on a tech video update:

                Look at this:

Link to their website: Zoom H2 Handyrecorder

Suppose to be good for podcasts too with 4 built in mics, but I am not sure how expensive this is.
