(katoeylover @ Jun. 28 2008,17:44) You should never, ever buy baht in the UK. Change at Bkk airport if you need money for taxi's etc.
I bring £100 cash with me from the UK and when I get to Bankgok airport normally use the ATM -
but I've got the folding money as a back up to change at one of the bank counters.
The airport rate is usually only about 0.2-0.3 Baht/£, $ or Euro worse than the rate at Nana -
so unless you are changing 100's it's not worth worrying about the difference when you first arrive.
The other advice I will keep repeating for those who are frequent visitors from the UK is to get a Nationwide Flex Account + card.
It's the only one I know of that does not charge for foreign currency withdrawls - though if anyone else knows better post it up.
I think it was Snick who came up with a US card issuer that is the same.

Socrates, did I ever tell you that you are not only a gentleman, but also a scholar? You're too fucking brilliant (I just made a post not 5 minutes ago referencing the same thing - check the Picture Post section).
Anyways, as you can see, my activity has perked up again and the long and short answer is yes, my return is inevitable. Working out the final kinks and details, but I'll be there in time for New Year's 2009 for sure. And there is an ugly rumour going around I may be in town for a few days in August...
I'll PM you details.I'm a rough-ridin', hootin' and hollerin', ladyboy lovin' cowboy! Bang bang yer dead!!!

Just to reinforce Manarak's post about best exchange rate:
The Vasu Money Exchange, 133-133/1 Sukhumvit Soi 7, Bangkok, phone: 2253-1706-7.
Today I got the rate of 34.7 Baht/USD as compared to the bank exchange booths rate of 34.38.
Be aware they only take cash, USD, Euro, Yen, etc. No traveler's cheques, credit/debit cards.
Good option if you're in the area and looking for best rates.

I have a direct line now to the HSBC trading desk and can get the headline rate for commercial transactions as long as its over 2000USD ..The issue now is that i have to set up a bank account in LOS and use my business account to wire the money through ..Not sure about the bank protocols or IR implications for using a Business facility for wiring through to a private baht account
Maybe ill study this further next year with my accountant as the last thing is want is the IR on my back

What makes no sense at all is the US dollar keeps growing compared to the Baht. Our economy is fucking crumbling, the house of cards has been revealed to have no clothes (or some other mixed metaphor like this) yet 1000 baht in July cost $31, today it is only $28.78.
Of course I'm happy but can't seem to make sense of it.Making newbie mistakes since 2009 so you don't have to
