the only rule is play safe condom 100% always if you are not sure about your partner healt.
In this way is very difficult to catch any STD.
Is not 100% safe have sex as well with condom the only 100% way safe is chastithy (hope i write this good) But if you're like all from the board and want to have fun and If you care your life condom is the only way.

          good question....

actually one way such a testing prog. can help is it would find infection earlier. Treatment reduces the risk of passing on the infection. no it doesnt mean and i dont think was implied by original poster that one should bb... it is something that would help the unfortunate few girls who get infected and also help the punters

Have to say disappointed in the attitude of some of the guys on here...f you are sick of people posting on a topic why not fucking ignore it instead of having a go at whoever posted?

know what i have read lots of reports of people going to bkk and fucking ladyboys on here.... and i hope i read many more even if there are 1000000 hits when i search for fucking ladyboys in bangkok!

(Naja Tom @ Jun. 10 2007,13:03) Better yet, maybe a bar owner should start requiring it and doing it just that way.  Maybe that would start a trend with more responsible owners.
Agreed!  Good idea Tom!  Wouldn't it be nice to be able to enjoy the fun and have peace of mind too?

To clear up some misconceptions raised above - obviously you can't generalize about an entire country and say that testing in thailand wont work because nobody cares in thailand.

Secondly, the test isn't good as of the day its taken.  Its technically good as of 3 months prior to the day it was taken.  So even worse.  But would you rather have a girl with a clean slate 9 weeks prior or no test results at all?

Thirdly - in other countries such as mexico, girls are allowed into the bars to work as long as they have their health cards on them.  The police to frequent raids of the bars to check for health cards.  So its possible to have a card carrying clean girl.

Fourthly - the new OraQuick HIV test which is just a finger prick and 20 minute results - if anyone can get their hands on some of these I would pay some seriously big bucks for them.  I was just thinking of checking ebay but I would be worried about fake versions of it.  The OraQuick test is currently only legal to be administered by a medical professional, but its so advanced (third generation Elisa antibody test) and so sensitive that it can detect the virus antibodies as recently as 6 weeks.  That cuts down the "HIV window period" from the original 6 months to 6 weeks.  Thats peace of mind.

And obviously you haven't been here...

Every girl I've been with this trip...(and I've been here for 2 months this trip)...wants to go bareback or is willing to go bareback...I haven't, but who knows what the guy before me or after me did...so what the hell good is your test...And I don't go with FL drunk druggie sluts...all the girls are from bars...They either don't care or are too stupid or horny to care...who knows...The Thai cognitive process is not the same as the Western cognitive process...not even close...

Listen to what the guys who live and travel here are saying...

If you are that worried about it...my advice...don't make the trip...

pizzaoverdose, your faith in HIV testing is misplaced when it comes to bargirls.

                1) Bar owners do not feel any responsibility to their "customers" in Thailand. There was testing around 10 years ago when the AIDS rate was extremely high, but it was never mandatory from the gov't. What you suggest can only work if the gov't makes it mandatory, OR if you can convince all sex tourists not to go to Thailand unless they start testing the bar girls for STDs (and not just AIDS).

                2) You are ignoring the other myriad STDs that are out there. True they may not mean eventual seriousness of AIDS, but if untreated can lead to sterility, blindness, madness, remember Idi Amin? He suffered from advanced syphilis.

                3) You missed the point my of my post, the test is ONLY going to be useful to you personally if you are the FIRST customer after the girl has had a negative result. Ok, now you are sure she was negative for at least 3 months prior for AIDs, and hopefully all the other STDS.

Let us assume that the average bar girl has around 15 customers a month, and is tested monthly. Now if you are not the first customer she had after her monthly negative testing - what assurance do you have that the other guy(s) just before you did not infect her? Now, do you suggest a) the girls get tested after each customer - I think not! or b) you insist the bar tests each customer - again I think not!

                4) Is there a good reason why HIV tests are only available to health care professionals? You probably understand what a false positive result is. Do you understand what to tell a bar girl if she tests positive with this convenient Oraquick, or simply tell her "get lost" I don't want to see you, it's not my problem?

There is no "peace of mind" with STD testing unless you want to a) implement testing of bar girls after each customer or b) test the bar girls regularly and test each customer and c) bars will back the girls if they refuse customers who want to bareback (which is more common than you imagine).

If you are that concerned about catching an STD, I feel the pay for play (p4P) scene is not one you should be involved in.

If contracting an STD was a serious problem with punters coming to Thailand who do take proper precautions (ie. safer sex), don't you think the infection rate would be much higher for this group?

I have to endorse what has been said by Mardhi, Kahuna and others. Only one person is responsible for your safety - and that's you.

Go bareback if you want - there are plenty of girls who see this as a way to up their price a bit - but the risk is all yours they have already made their choice.

Now to drift like the new avatar Kahuna - very nice
