  • Regular STD Tests?

Have not seen this mentioned, but are the LBs at Guess required to be routinely tested for STDs and HIV at a reliable clinic and provide proof?

Does anyone know about Cascades and Cassanova as well?

It is talked a lot in other forums about the BGs being tested but I have not seen it mentioned about LBs working in a bar.

As far as I know none of the bars in Bangkok require the girls to be tested.

While I have no doubt any tests actually conducted would be reliable - Thailand has a very good standard of medical care - you have to bear a few things in mind.

Any test is only valid for a very short time period and also some infections only show after an extended period.

        All tests can be fiddled.

A girl who is infected may well use means to fiddle her test results or cover them up in order to continue earning money.

In short what value would there be in requiring regular tests?

Ok, RR, let's do a for example:

For example, if the bar owner has a clinic he can absolutely rely on to give good tests and report the results to him, that goes a long way to insuring your customers feel safer coming there and enjoying what they are getting....yes, even if you use condoms, as I would and do.

It also lets the owner know who is at higher risk if they keep showing up positive that they need to deal with that person they have in the bar.

Granted, nothing is 100% foolproof, but a situation as above goes a long way to making it for fun for all with less worry.

I have no doubt that you can find a truely reliable clinic  -  there are lots of very good very cheap ones all over Thailand.

But you are assuming both that the owner of a bar in Thailand is going to follow western standards of accountability and that a girl who has failed a medical check is not going to lie/cheat on the results. I would not have any regard for such a system of checks in nearly every country in Asia except perhaps for Japan.  Even then I would not be so sure.

Even a condom is not 100% reliable  -  but with reasonable care you cut the odds of catching something considerably.

Anyway  -  you are still more likely to die of old age or a road accident

While the Guess Bar is indeed an exception....Do you really believe that any of the bars in NEP care anything about you except for your baht?

They care so much about you that at least one of the bars...Obs...knowingly employs underage girls...

Worry about yourself...cause the folks that run the NEP bars don't give a shit...

I understand that and do not play without protection. I was just asking a question. I am sure that even Guess Bar has a high level of interest for the Baht over many other things or they wouldn't post messages bragging about how much they made recently.

But it was just a question for any who might know. That's all.

It's a noble and interesting thought Tom, but these guys are right. To expect businesses to run like that in Thailand is like thinking you're going to win the lottery (which I guess does happen). The bars run on farang tourists, guys who pop in and out for a few weeks and are gone. There's no incentive for them to provide safety for their customers. Think of them as like a car company who doesn't do any safety testing before bringing a car to market. And as many have pointed out, even if they did perform an STD check, there just so much corruption and greed that the bad seeds have a lot of ways to slip thru the cracks, ultimately making testing a moot point. Face it, this is just on eof the risks of the lifestyle and you have a choice and some ways to mitigate that risk yourself, so do all you can and don't worry about it if you continue to choose to see Thai hookers.

Hilarious... That's the best post I've read all week. Next you'll ask if the 'Health & Safety' cops pay routine visits and if the 'Department of Weights & Measures' are ensuring the serving the correct portions of whisky!

Hey Stogie - Don't forget about the "Ladyboy & Femboy Workers Union", checking to see if all workers compensation insurance, holiday and sick pay, superanuation and correct workware is being provided. At least we know Guess bar provides safety boots.

But seriously.... It's hard enough trusting your life ito a little bit of latex rubber sometimes. I couldn't see trusting it to a bit of paper.

I think that sums it up perfectly - personally I have always worked on the principle that you assume the worse in everyone - that way you look after number 1 each and every time.   Knowing how easy it is to get false medical certificates, if someone wanted to, they could easily get one.      Probably a better annecdote is how many girls in Guess Bar have recently had boob jobs - the hospitals they go to, check for HIV themselves and wont carry out the procedure if the person is HIV positive.    Some other backstreet clinic may, but I have not seen any examples of that happening (ie I am going to dr so and so and then suddenly they go and change doctor the day the operation is due).

Having said all that I believe they have tests every 3 months - but as I say, I would not personally put much faith in the piece of paper - as Katrika says - stick to rubber is a way better option.

                            Cheers
                            Mardhi
