I have written to doug and apologised for my brusque responses to his concerns. I overreacted, of course, and I'm only human.

Like someone else suggested - If being caught on camera is a concern then don't come on opening night!

Publicity and marketing is the only way this bar will keep its' doors open. Last night there was virtually nobody there the whole night. Hopefully the girls will actually do something about this and save this place as I for one would hate to see it close.

Being the busiest bar on the floor isn't enough. The other bars are always completely deserted! Getting the Japanese guys in is a priority and leaflets (in Japanese) should be distributed in and around Nana to attract these guys. Posters on urinal walls have to go up too.

The location of this bar is only great if you already know about it!

At the moment there are as many people applying to work there as there are customers and guests!

To clarify something - I am most definitely NOT involved with the new bar other than as a supporter, but you are welcome to believe what you want!  

Believe me, if I was a part owner here then two of the girls would be outside the front of Nana, dressed up to the nines, every night handing out free drink cards with maps on them (in Japanese and English!)

Yeah, I went in to see the bar for the first time late yesterday afternoon. Terrific place, easily deserving of the great notices here, but there was one problem. Jay and I were the only people there the whole time I was around.

Don't get me wrong, it was great fun to sit and kid around with the boss for an hour -- as most everyone here already knows, she's a pleasure to hang out with -- but she isn't going to make much money that way.

Go in and buy a drink, damn it all. Jay deserves your support, if for no other reason because of her initiative here, a very un-Thai characteristic.

I for one don't give a shit if someone snaps my pic but I'm an old ugly fella and it would do everyone who saw it an injustice...No Aint's paperbags for me...

And I for one have an extremely difficult time understanding why anyone with a family (wife + children, etc.)  would ever think about going to LOS and chasing ladyboys or GG's in the first place...just doesn't  make any sense to me...Then again I suppose I'm from a different mold...

well i think most of the guys chasing lb or gg are married.
someone else could also says the same about chasing lb instead of gg...so that makes sense to you?

I am on my way home after a too short visit.(but then, a few unpleasant things, too.) I would dearly hope to be able to visit it again when I return.(who knows when)

Isn't there a Japanese language magazine, IIRC "yuu" that give guidance to Japanese tourist in BKK? Maybe a page advertisement and packaged feature article is the way to go.

I asked her about her afternoon girls when I popped in earlier this week and did not see any??? "Oh they want to work evening" she said, so what happen about the customer who come in during the afternoon I ask? - her reply was "well your the only person to have come in during the afternoon so far" - hmmm, as I sat there two guys came in and had a drink, chatted to Jay and left. She will get the message, but as your forum name implies, they need to discover that for themselves, there is only so much dragging a horse to water.

I can imagine the chatting that took place along these lines last night:-

Jay "we have had four customer come in the bar in last two days during afternoon"
Girls "oh really, what for"
Jay "I think they came in for some action as they had one drink and left"
Girls "oh 4 guys - come in the afternoon. Are you sure Jay, most customer only only want to take us when they are pissed"
Jay: "well maybe things are going to be different here"
Girls: "oh so if we come to work early, we could have maybe gotten somewhere with the guys"
Jays: "Well its for sure they didn't just happen to be passing the bar as we are the dead end of a corridor in a quiet complex"

I think I can see a Thai style solution being employed here. As there has been a demand, they will accomodate it by staffing accordingly - apart from the blindingly obvious fact to any westerner, that you need to set out your stall and see what happens. I wonder if Thai's open a restuarant and when the customers come, they go and find a chef

No it doesn't. Is that a snide comment about being gay and not admitting it? It would have made more sense if you said single or married why are we involved in P4P at all? Why aren't we looking for a real relationship?

I agree with Kahuna, if you have to sneak around behind your partner don't you feel guilty? I'm only 26 and single so I don't know what it's like after being married for x number of years, so maybe I'm not qualified to comment.

The phrases 'to the nines', or 'to the nine', were used to indicate perfection - the highest standards. That was in use in the 18th century, as here from William Hamilton's 'Epistle to Ramsay', 1719:

"How to the nines they did content me."

'To the nine' also appears in a translation of Voyages de Jehan de Mandeville chevalier, which appeared anonymously in France, circa 1357 and is attributed to Sir John Mandeville:

"Sir king! ye shall have war without peace, and always to the nine degree, ye shall be in subjection of your enemies, and ye shall be needy of all goods."

The original work was written in Anglo-Norman French and is much translated. Whether the 'to the nine' is a literal translation from the original or whether it was added by translators later, and possibly as late as 1900, isn't clear. It doesn't seem likely that the phrase existed in English as early as the 14th century, not to appear again in print until the 18th century.

'To the nines' has now gone out of use and only persists in the more specific 'dressed to the nines' (or sometimes 'dressed up to the nines').

I hope it's given enough time to develop and find a customer base, Xmas/New Years should give a boost. It must be hard with Nana so close.

Basically the term 'dressed to the nines' is an old expression from a bygone era and translates into 'dressed to kill' in more modern day lingo
