Why would anyone want to get involved with what LBs do and say when they think we don't understand or won't be told later?

If your gal was upset by some off hand remarks made by the staff then don't go back... or don't bring her back.

I suspect that there is a little more to it than that. Olay never has problems with the Guess Bar girls... actually; she just plugs in her music and sits outside till I'm ready to leave.

She could get chatty with the lads and lasses like Jane and others or she could just not bother coming at all, but she's happy to sit out side and watch the world go by for an hour or so.

I for one am happy to NOT be pressed into buying drinks. Actually it annoys me that they follow me around topping up my glass, which I have now put to an end by moving the bottle out of their way!

They aren't Thais and it's not a Western bar. It's a Thai bar trying to attract Western cash.

It works for some and not for others. Some people have found a 'comfort zone' there and others have comfort zones elsewhere.

If it wasn't for the Guess Bar I'd NEVER go to Bangkok other than to get a curry every now and then.

I became involved when my lb was offended. If a manager of any establishment offends your significant other while your a patron of that establishment do you just let it slide? We didn't make a scene there, and here is a more appropriate place to adress that as a warning to others. who might want to bring their lb to Guess Bar.

You mention that if my gal was offended then don't go back or don't bring her back. Thats the point, I won't bring her back, nor will I take another outside lb to Guess Bar. If I ever go back it will only to meet members of the forum before taking my buisness somewhere else.

Stogie you could bring anyone you wanted and they would not be subjected to any ill treatment because of your past relationship with the bar, Mardi and this site. Thats great Olay can come with and block things out with her music until your ready to leave. However i don't know many lbs who would be happy to do that while I hung out with the boys.

I just reported on an experience I had with bringing in an outside ladyboy at Guess Bar. As someone mentioned before its unpopular as I found out first hand. There isn't anymore to it than that.

I suspect you have been fed some information in a not so exactly correct way given you dont speak enough Thai to understand the comment and have taken it at face value.  

I saw this thread last night and chatted to Jay about it when she was watching the Discovery channel in her room.    She remembers all of it very well as she spent most of the evening talking to Katoeylover.    

The comment about your GF was quoted out of context - how about this for another version -

"My GF was sat on her own looking board with nobody to talk to, so Jay elected to go and keep her company while all the guys were chewing the fat.   As is always the case, the first thing they talk about is beauty and Jay was overheard among other things to say that my GF looked like a girl but not in a beautifull way, more like a girl next door.          After getting a couple of additional drinks and more chewing the fat, another board member came into the bar and Jay was overheard to comment about her, not too her "wow she is beautiful even with wearing a wig"

I'll leave it for you to see how a play on words changes a meaning completely.      

Simple fact of the matter is that guests are welcomed in the bar - a fact borne out by the hi-rollers you referred to in your post - did you notice one had his girlfriend with him?   They come into the bar probably 6-8 times a month - not exactly the sign of an unwelcoming bar to achieve such repeat visits.       As for the visit to the toilet with Top, I can assume with a very high degree of probability who among that group was behind that induction        

Simple reality IMHO is to listen to what you are told, rationalise it, and then you are likely somewhere near the truth.   Jay can be direct that's for sure - she does not suffer fools gladly but she is not stupid in a commercial way.

My two cents worth:

I am not a regular at Guess Bar, I have been there exactly twice.

I had excellent sevice on both occassions. I have met one LB who I enjoyed the company of very much, played pool with many others, bought a FEW drinks, and generally felt welcomed by the girls.

Ladyboys are ladyboys. They wear their hearts on their sleaves, especially the younger prettier ones. They sulk and pout and carry on. Its part of who they are. In my opinion they like a little drama. Look at any group of 20 plus ladyboys and at least two will have the shits. So what? What about 20 punters? Would the odds differ?

TTC drinks at Guess Bar a bit from what I can gather from this forum, and its's where I met him. It would seem to be that Jay being a smart business woman (one assumes) has probably taken his criticism on board.

It is not my experience that Thai ladyboys are bitchy. (and please... this is not a fact, merely an opinion) If only the same could be said for their western counterparts, and GG's too. I hear them generally support other ladyboys. I travel with a ladyboy partner, and Like Laputanegra, know when someone is taking the piss out of me or mine. Its a rare thing in Thailand to hear a LB put down another. (IN MY EXPERIENCE!!!!)

Lastly bars ebb and flow with the energy that is created by the leadership. If Jay is busy elsewhere it will suffer. If she shows that she is interested the girls will too.

My Ex went to the bar many times before we broke up.
She was always made welcome by the girls and most especially Jay who even now asks after her.

Jay does come across as very direct that's just her nature - but I have always got on well with her and found her good to talk to.

My experience of ladyboys has always been that they compare notes on beauty etc.
Sometimes I have been surprised at some of the comments that have been related to me afterwards - not just from the Guess bar.
However it has also been apparent that whilst they were pretty direct that no harm was meant by them and my Ex never seemed to take offence.

I also came to understand that the literal translation of Thai often loses the nuances that modify what is meant.
Just the same way that a joke in English don't work on most Thais.

In short I'm trying to say that maybe Boarhog's girlfriend was upset at Jay's direct manner - and misconstrued the second remark.

Mardhi I appreciate your effort to get another side of the story and perhaps helping your gf with a potential public relations problem with the bar. I spoke to my gf extensively to what was said, and who it was said to. We spoke about it later and I actually wrote what she told me word for word to accurately post it later. She was very offended no matter how you attempt to soften the context. Talking to Jay about it can only be positive for the Bar in my estimation.

As far Shuey, I specifically asked my gf exact words and who she said this to. It was in Thai and too some of her staff. She is cute/beautiful, hair not real, she is wearing a wig. I€™m not going to drag other bm who were there into this, and I€™m not saying this will happen to every outside ladyboy who goes to Guess Bar. This didn€™t happen every night I took my gf to Guess Bar, but on this night it that is how it went down.

If anyone takes their wife, gf, or significant other to a given establishment, and the management or staff insults them, you have a few choices. You can address it right on the spot and make a scene, leave immediately, choose to ignore it and never come back, or you can ignore and come back and subject yourself to it again. Personally I won€™t bring an outside ladyboy to Guess Bar again after this experience. I took her 3 times before without an incident other than some Guess girls calling her madame. Not a big deal, but it makes her less comfortable.

Well, so far it's only happened to you and your partner... unless there are undocumented cases that haven't made it to this message board. It's still the only bar I would take Olay.

the girls seems bitchy, only ohm come to say hello. and gong said something that sounds rude to me,
we didn't feel welcome there...
so we decided to left from there and go to get drink somewhere else..

too bad.. cos i really enjoy being there with all girls...
