I don't know that many girls, but last night I saw Marcia, formerly of Casanova/Cascade/Nana parking lot, Janny, formerly of Hi-Boss/Stringfellows/Walking St, Golf, formerly of Obsessions and about 8 others. Not bad for night #1.
Nice and cool, easy music assortment- some jazz, some swing, some Rasta, etc at conversational levels. Free peanuts at the bar, comfy sleeper couches with pillows, low lighting. Best prices in the area- for everything! Can't remember the BF, but the ST rooms are 350 ST and 650 for all night. The short time rooms look like the best in Bangkok.
Uniform of the night was apparently: a tight black dress, short enough to be illegal in most of the US, black heels, black fishnet stockings, a hint of perfume, a bucket of eye-shadow and succulent."The Ladyboy Collection- start yours today!"

- First 3 rules of retail.....location, location, location. Soi 1, upstairs, round the back, last on the left is not exactly prime real estate.
- Nice furnishings, high quality this and that, regular health checks, etc,etc = higher costs than other bars?
- No "hassling" for drinks = cheap charlie paradise
- Lowest drinks prices in the area = cheap charlie paradise
- Cheap charlies = low lady tips = ladies won't want to work there.
- Low drinks prices = lower profits unless they get volume...see comment on location
Once the grand opening period wears off, will the enthusiasm continue?

Hello Stewart!
You sure raised some good questions there, but I wouldn't knock the location so much.
This would surely be true, if it would be another normal girlie bar, but since this is a "special interest" bar, I think people that are interested in ladyboys will surely go there. Many people will read about this on the internet first and then go there and check it out. I don't think that a ladyboy bar in that location has to rely so much on walking clientel, that just passed by accidently and decided to have a look inside. It seems like a nice alternative to the NEP bars, though I will still go there as well. I hope the new bar will make enough money to stay around for a while....
Good luck to them!

(Stewart @ Nov. 22 2006,23:59) If it is that high quality - and it looks like it - then prices should be HIGHER than the average. People will pay for quality.I'm a rough-ridin', hootin' and hollerin', ladyboy lovin' cowboy! Bang bang yer dead!!!

i havent been yet,
but actually like that its out of the way.
something discreet, and away from the hustle.
im not worried about prices either.
there is one thing though, ONE thing that will make or break this new venture, and that is:
the quantity and quality of the girls there.
please pass that on to the manager. i hope to support soon.

This is market segmentation 101. You have Nana/Cowboy/Patpong = mass market, Soi 33 a bit more upmarket. You have AsianTS = mass market.
Mass market = volume and low prices
Soi 33 is higher prices (for drinks and barfines and ladies) and "perceived" higher quality. Higher quality normally means higher costs
If you get this mixed up ie higher quality/costs aiming at mass market, you could screw up badly.
I agree that that is a VERY simplistic analysis, but done that way to make a point. And I am also no expert on running a bar in Thailand that's for sure!!
The bar looks HIGH QUALITY, so why pitch the prices at mass market?Mister Arse

You guys have raised some interesting questions about prices. To be honest I dont how it will work out, but last night as an example, I bought five of the girls a ladydrink. I wouldn't do that in Nana for sure because they are taking the piss - 130 baht for a thimble of cola is a joke and I think many savvy guys are starting to realise this but have had no other choice. To put it into perspective on the opening night, Jay was telling me that Jane had 19 lady drinks bought for her - so presumably the average punter agree's with the principal that by making it better value does not always equate to attracting cheap charlies. I can easily afford 130 baht for a thimble of cola - but I choose not to be 'ripped off' as I also know that the cola costs the bar less than 2 baht a glass. In comparison with the other bars in the complex, the beers are more expensive but cheaper than Nana by a fair margin. Personally I have no problem with the drink prices as they are now plus the fact that they use real branded spirits not some cheap vodka poured into a Smirnoff bottle.
Cheers
Mardhi

I have been in the bar every nite from the opening (thats make only 2 but its ok) and i can tell it is one of the best places to chill out here in Bangkok (and i have visited every spot of this city i mean it).
the bar has nothing to do with Nana area or patpong or pattaya, it is just on a different level.
when you are inside it seems to be in another country like Paris or Rome or London.
the music is perfect
the girls are just so sweet and not pressing at all
i feel just like home (i mean the home of your dreams)
