It's selling at 11900 at Pantip now - most shops will install WinXP portable edition at no extra cost. The screen seems a bit small. Definitely very lightweight and handy for basic travel computing - internet, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, etc.

However, with my aging IBM R40 getting unable to run Photoshop CS3 at a decent pace, I've decided on getting a new Sony Vaio 13.3" SZ series - not the carbon fiber case one though as they are a bit out of my price range. Still lighter than my IBM, but waay faster!

          Hi Guys,
are these any good for skype?
I do have a 13" Packard Bell and have to take it everywhere,
but i'd like something smaller and basic to take out and about.

            Yes they are...

They come out of the box with Skype already installed on the computer.

I had to install skype, but it worked fine and the video camera is supported.

There are two models for sale in Thailand. One with a video camera one without, the difference is 1000Baht. Get the one with the camera. Both are 4gb - I have not seen the 8gb model here.

                  Dieter,

do you bring it to LOS with you? I guess it's too big for in-room safes?

I have an ultraportable Tablet PC that fits in the safes but I would rather bring my 15.4" laptop ... not so sure I'd be happy to do that though if I couldn't put it in safe

bigmick22, another option is to lock it in your luggage when you are out of the room - out of sight, makes for less temptation.

good point rxpharm - I might do that

It's just much easier to work with the larger, better-specced laptop. And the larger, wide-screen, tru-brite screen is much nicer for viewing my photos

                          Kahuna

Due the lack of space on the Hard disk (4GB from which Windows XP OS takes about 2,5), is highly recommended to upgrade the memory at least to 1gb ram (stick is about 1,000 bath).

Although the PC works fine, for the best performance of your EEE  follow the steps on the User€™s manual, page 5-4, especially concerning the change of the €œVirtual Memory€- paging file, which by windows default comes with 1536MB (I set to 256MB) and turning off (disable) the System Restore or if you want it, 5% is enough.

With these indications you just freed up 25-30%

Not sure about the idea of compressing the Local Disk drive © €“ I didn€™t do it, neither moving the folders €œMy Documents€ or €œIE Temporary files€ (the windows behavior might be weird).

                          My 2 cents worth

When I travel ,my lap is with me...like now the room safe was big enough for my camera and my laptop...but I am to lazy to take it in......
When someone want break in he must be a cat burglar......

Following the Windows XP advice in the manual certainly helps the performance.

As does upgrading the memory, although when you do your warranty will become voided.

On my main computer I use 'IE' for browsing the internet but on the Asus EEE I use 'FireFox'. Works significantly faster and less prone to crashing.
