Looker, here is a good article that explains the digital ISO speeds. Not exactly the same as film ISO, but on the same principles. Digital ISO Speeds

Don't get too concerned, DSLRs work on pretty much the same principles as film cameras. The differences come in things like white balance (used to use filters with the film cameras, or darkroom corrections) and of course digital manipulation of the photos much easier than the old darkroom photo manipulation.

Best advice is to try as many cameras as you can to determine what you feel fits your requirements the best. Then go out, buy it. Then shoot a lot of photos with the goal of trying to learn all the things your camera can do, and looking to improve your composition, etc.

Marshal, yes it is nice to take some nice portrait photos, and this one of Passy turned out very nice.

Tourot, will be very interested to find out how well that ring light works. Please report back after you had a chance to test it with that wonderful Minolta 100 mm macro lens!
