Just a little bump here as we are getting closer to the World cup now.

I backed North Korea the other day. 20euro each way at 1000/1. Great value. I also cant find the North Korean football shirt in any of the sports shops here.

Brazil have been the only team to win the World cup outside their own continent, so statistically they should be favorites.

I think Argentina have a great chance, but one thing I would hold against them is Maradona as their coach. He is useless and they were lucky they qualified.

Spain have the best team on paper but they usually suffer from stage fright and am swaying towards them folding against one of the bigger teams in the first knockout stage

I cant see an African team winning it (ever). If you ever sat through a few African cup of nations matches you would think the same. They are technically dire. Each African team relies far too much on 1 or 2 players that play for clubs in the EPL and the likes.

I think the last four teams will be Brazil, France, Argentina and Germany. But my heart says North Korea all the way.

oh i think there was something like 43 years ago  completely overrated team imho.

England will be beaten by the first decent team they meet-quarter finals is as far as they will go.
As has been said -huge hole in the defence-no decent keeper,Terry and Ferdinand grossly overrated.The newspapers in the UK allways bull them up every tournament,and every tournament they implode.

Ivory coast the best ousiders ,Argentina to beat Spain in the final.

I seem to remember that in 1990 Argentina's proven keeper Pumpido had a mishap and an unproven unknown young man by the name of Sergio Goycachea (sp?) showed the world that goal keeping isn't about having the best size or creating fear into the hearts of your opponents, its about reading plays smartly.

Also didn't Italy have Buffon for a long time and only won once. On the other than Brazil has never had a solid keeper and won two cups in 94 and 02. Germany on the other hand has had Kahn and Lehman but no wins to show for it.

So it matters, but its not going to put them over the top. The way I look at it, the best the keeper can guarantee is a shut out, but look at your offense, the defense and the keeper you're playing and are you able to say without question that in the world cup where glamorous games are few and far inbetween, are you not going to a PK shootout?

If you are, a good keeper's value decreases substancially.

Case in point.. Last cup's final, Buffon didn't save a single shot.. Trez just misfired one, just like Roberto Baggio.
