Such a subjective matter to ever get one actor we can all agree on. Still, we all have our own opinion, here's mine -

From JaiDee's list I like Marlon's earlier work though he later made money as a bloated parody of himself.

I concur with Lefty's opinion of Clint, he is just terrific in everything he does. He turned 80 last Monday.

Sir Laurence was a great actor with his best days behind him by the time he concentrated on the screen.

Hackman, Connery, De Niro, Nicholson, all good but not the best IMO. Other current actors I admire include Morgan Freeman, Daniel Day Lewis, John Malkovich, Ben Kingsley & Anthony Hopkins.

But the male actors I prefer are all dead now & include Alec Guiness, Charles Laughton, James Cagney, Edward G. Robertson, Peter Lorre, James Stewart, Clark Gable & Rod Steiger.

But my all time favourite? Only this guy - please step forward Humphrey Bogart.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

I will put my preferences up against anyone's list of favourites.

They may only be my opinion which neither makes them the best nor the worst, but as great actors, their pedigree cannot be denied.

Modern day "nancyboys" who are hyped to the hilt by a studio desperate to stay profitable don't have an ounce of the charisma & technique these old boys had.

Think about it, would Jimmy Stewart or Edward G. or Spencer Tracey even get hired today?

And old Humphrey had a paralysed top lip from a war injury that required him to learn to talk again. That would preclude him in an instant for consideration as a leading man in today's shallow world.

Good for you Dave, voting for Clint.   You've displayed your intelligence and good taste by doing so.

I forgot 2: Alec Guiness & John Travolta

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Roger Moore is my favourite Actor (see my avator) and though he is most well known for his Bond Films ( hence I'm 007) he did a lot of other work in Television and the Film Industry.

His "raised" eyebrow and witty "one liners" for example in the TV Series The Saint (see pic) and the Bond Films make him "Legendary" and an "Icon" in my book

If he plays himself, I'd rather watch him than Adam Sandler.

There is iron in your words of life. As an actor and director combined, does anyone else even come close?

One of the great scenes from IMO, Clint's best western movie. Will Sampson was a fine supporting actor too. I loved him as Ten Bears and as Chief Bromden in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Are you dissing Adam Sandler? As for contemporary comedy actors, he is easily my favorite. He is a genius as far as I'm concerned. I love Adam Sandler.

I kind of like tasteful comedy rather than dumb comedy which is why I chose Roger Moore, he played a comedic bond with class.

You consider Hugh Grant as also tasteful comedy? I've never been a big fan one way or the other, so don't seek out his work.

If Sandler's movies are defined as dumb comedy, then I'm all for dumb comedy. I'm not so sure that is the best word to define his work though. Also all his movies are not the same style. While The Waterboy may indeed be silly or dumb, I don't think you can place that label on for example, Anger Management.

As an actor alone, i cannot split them.

Denzel, Crowe, Pacino, Eastwood, Nicholson, De Niro, Newman, Hackman, Michael Caine, Freeman, Depp, both Hoffmans, Spacey, Keitel ....  the list just goes on... so i wont vote in this one.
Anything Michael Douglas is in is generally great too

He may be a wanker, but Tom cruise is not too bad either.

But i wont be giving keanu reaves the nod in a hurry
