(f0xxee @ May 31 2010,12:04) Sad to say IMHO Python doesn't stand the test of time. Life of Brian does, but I watched a few episodes of the show the other night and found it cringe-worthy...
Fair point Foxxee. No doubt some of the sketches from the show were uneven, even pointless..to be expected perhaps from a show that went 45 episodes over 4 seasons and was really quite avant garde for the time and place. But the best still stand up. Check out the piranha brothers sketch from 1970. Still brilliant 40 years later. Spanish Inquisition, Freemasons, etc...anyway the thing was about UK comedy in general rather than sitcoms as far as Python was  concerned. Just for our Boston cousin

Think you're on your own with Vicar of Dibley being the 'best ever' though
(As much as I enjoyed it...)

(pacman @ May 30 2010,23:17) while Elaine typified every neurotic Jewish NY Princess with her execrable behaviour & condescencion towards males.
Elaine is not Jewish. There's an entire episode about her being "shiksa" and thus appealing to Jewish men because she isn't like their mothers.
According to wiki, she could still be Jew.

Shiksa (Yiddish: שיקסע, Polish: siksa) or shikse, is a Yiddish and Polish word that has moved into English usage, mostly in North American Jewish culture, where it may be used as a pejorative term for a non-Jewish woman, but is now often used satirically. Not all gentile non-Jewish women are referred to as shiksa, only those who are intervening with Judaism in some way, e.g. intermarriage. Among orthodox Jews, the term may be used to describe young Jewish women who fail to follow orthodox religious precepts.
The bolded part would seem to fit Elaine to a T.

Petticoat Junction. With Betty Jo, Bobbie Jo, and Billie Jo. Set in Hooterville. Always wanted to join them in that water tower.

Does any one remember the very short lived sitcom called "Frank's Place"? It was brilliant but the tit-heads at NBC axed it.

I remember "Franck's Place" only too well...

His place was called Bar 131 & it's where I first met some of the BM's from the forum. And Nicky when she was a baby.

Someone should have made a sitcom on the place, I think that would have also been "brilliant".
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

(kahuna @ May 30 2010,23:18) The Larry Sanders Show which was preceded by short-lived Garry Shandling Show were also very funny shows...
Now THAT show was genius. Extremely talented cast with a top notch script.

I liked Third Rock From The Sun with John Lithgow and Kristen Johnston.

That was much better than the spoiled neurotic dullards in Seinfeld. In fact even Night Court was funnier than Seinfeld.

Seinfeld to me is just like Friends or Sex In The City... It's populated with people I would kill myself to avoid in real life.

Petticoat Junction was set at The Shady Rest Hotel in Petticoat Junction. Hooterville was the next town down the line, which you could get to by riding The Cannonball. Hooterville was where Green Acres was set, and the two shows were eventually intermingled with characters from one also appearing at times on the other. Some characters from The Beverly Hillbillies were also intermingled with Petticoat Junction characters on one of the two shows.

That's how I remember it anyway.

Seinfeld Rocks!!!! It was one of the top shows of all time. Anywhere you go in the country you can watch it ealr evening be it on a cable channel or a local channels wherever you are. I never watched it when it was on but discovered it in reruns. No matter how many times I have seen an episode, theres at least one belly laugh per episode.

George was, by far, my fav charecter. They should ahve done a show where George got drunk, got blown by a gorgeous girl only to discover it was an LB the next week!!! LOL!!!

The first two seasons, well, kind of sucked. The charecters looked awkward and Jerry look a little wooden. The exception to that was George. He nailed from the get go.

You know all the bit actors were so funny as well and played REALLY well with the rest of the cast. I dont know if they were lucky or the cast made everybody else better.

Of the top of my head other GREAT shows:
SIMPSON-Absolutely brilliant and they have kept it up for 20 years FFS!!!

TAXIHow good was Louie DePalma. BTW I never see this show on any more!

ALL IN THE FAMILY- THE TOP DOG in the 70's. Funny as fuck but a different kind of show. hey tackled a lot of social/political issues. I think Norman Lear is a schmuck but that show was genius!!!!!
                              Be careful out there!
