This latest incident was a set up and a trap for the Israelis. They were stupid enough to play right into the hands of the provocateurs. That's not to say that every one on every boat was a party to the scam, but it was well orchestrated. Many well meaning types just got caught up in it..and the Israelis reacted in a heavy handed way considering that they were on notice and knew what was coming.. I think their training has slipped... No excuses there.

Having said that, what is predictable is the bleeding heart knee jerk reactions whereby everything is black and white and the line between victims and perpetrators is just as clear...

Nothing will ever change if people don't open their eyes to the shades of grey. And no argument or cause was ever advanced or won by preaching to the converted.

Thank you BlueBallz for this post that reminds me of the conversations I had with the Rabbi & my friend.

I had forgotten one of the other big questions I put to them was why didn't the rest of the Arab world come to help the Palestinians?

They had money, they had weapons, they shared the same motivation (i.e. the desire to remove Israel from the world) yet they sat back & offered only lip service.

The Rabbi sat back in his chair & asked me what I knew about Palestinians. My answer was simple - nothing that I hadn't read about. And what difference did that make anyway?

It appears that the Palestinians are hated almost as much as the Jews by the rest of the Arab world. I am only repeating what I was told & I apologise for sounding a bit vague about the reasons. I do remember that the split goes back in history & the Palestinians are held in the same light as that other major Muslim rogue state - Chechnya.

I remember him telling me that Yassar Arafat was widely loathed in the Arab world & while he ruled the place, there would never be much support apart from loud condemnation of Israel.

After Arafat died, the Palestinians lost a great chance with their classic "own goal" by voting in Hamas. That was their great mistake & ruled out any chance for peace in the short term, something that suits the Arab world as they care less what happens to the Palestinians compared to the chance to aggravate Israel.

And Egypt have only acted in self-interest, there is no way they want 10's of thousands of Palestinians seeking refuge in their country. Now the world spotlight has increased on the Gaza problem, Egypt has to at least appear to care. But like all the other Muslim states, they also don't give a shit about their fellow Muslims.

My opinion? I was trying to faithfully recall an in-depth conversation with people who understood what was going on in their place of birth.

Two more qualified gents would be hard to find. My mate was an ex-Mossad agent (though he refused to tell me much more) who spoke several dialects of Arabic & had lived in many Arab countries.

And the Rabbi regularly met with Jews who moved between Australia & Israel. Plus he had some role with the Jewish consulate that he was not prepared to discuss. It all sounds like an espionage thriller but they were happy to answer everything I asked.

There are times to repeat what you know & there are times for analysis, I have only repeated what they told me. And the fact we were eating Asian food made no difference.

Though I noticed my mate didn't want to order prawns or pork in the company of his Rabbi...     ... never stopped him before...

Lets flip the coin here. Gaza is a small enclave of persecuted Israelis surrounded by the nasty Palestinians and their Blockade. Who is the first person who ride in on the white charger?  

1.5 million people and 15 tons of aid a day permitted- its a disgrace. Where I live and work they are a major demographic & having always been adamant about not being prejudiced in my younger days I learned the slow way....experience. I pretty much avoid any entanglements that I can now but it's unavoidable in the workplace & my patience wears thin listening to the non-stop status & financial obsessions.

The Palestinians are a classic example of Middle Eastern pride overcoming common sense, they are dooming themselves with their suicidal decisions. It's a pity since that part of the world also can also cut a deal on anything but their hatred of Jews overrides this & they are the hapless stooges in a geopolitical chess game, none of whose participants gives a rat's arse about them.
