  • (pacman @ May 03 2010,05:33)       Kurt Russell?
He's the paparazzi that's chasing me.

No shit, Kurt was filming me with his camcorder. In an everyday envirnoment, nothing to do with ladyboys.

And to any of the actors in this thread, put on your baseball cap and shades and I'll discreetly show you around Pattaya.

    • (kahuna @ Apr. 22 2010,10:08) I saw Kick Ass yesterday...It's not gonna win any major awards, but you'll like it...Very entertaining...
      Very entertaining indeed.

This film has cult classic written all over it, IMO.

Our petite little anti-hero, the 11 yo Hit Girl will be talked about for a long time.

What is one to make of a young girl in a purple wig wearing a mask who drops the words "fuckers" & "cunts" in her first few lines?

That she has just killed a bunch of gangsters in the most violent way imaginable simply adds to the conundrum.

This movie takes the piss out of the super hero genre in a way I never thought I would see. It is very much a movie for the times, with new super heroes being brought to the big screen at a terrific rate, it was inevitable that someone would take the absurd to the point of ridiculous.

But what a great romp. Nicholas Cage is nothing like I imagined, I agree with Deepthroat's opinion of him but here he is perfect in the role of Big Daddy.

And the cast of characters are excellent & actually are given a decent script to work with. As Kahuna says, there won't be any major awards given out here, but I am glad I have now seen the antidote for all future super hero movies to come.

How long before Kick Ass II will be in production & do you think they could use a single male who develops super powers every time he gets to Pattaya?

      I can do irony too...
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

      • I believe there is already a surfeit of 'super heroes' in Patttaya, so that might be a tough gig.

As for Pacman's comments - I'd be very surprised if they weren't working on the script for Kick Asses (or KickAss 2 or whatever they decide to call it) at this very moment.

A movie about two brothers involved in the Korean war..
Better story and better battle scenes than Saving Private Ryan..
I usually watch epic Chinese Three Kingdom/Wuxia but this
is the best war movie i ever saw by a country mile.. Theme tunes class too.

An awesome movie indeed, very emotional stuff indeed.

And the war scenes are intense too...

                    • Since I last visited this thread, I see a few of the fine folks are including some lists of all time favorites, so here are some of mine.

                      1. The Wild Bunch. IMO, this is the best western ever made. To really enjoy it though means getting an unedited 145 min copy. It has an all star cast of lead and character actors both and this movie really set a new standard for graphic violence in westerns. I see latter day movies copy lines or aspects of this movie on a regular basis.
                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wild_Bunch

                      2. Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
IMO, this movie ranks a close 2nd for enjoyable westerns. Ok, it is not historically accurate in every detail, but so far no movies made about these two legendary western figures have been. The acting, by a great cast filled with most of Peckinpah's regulars, the dialog, etc, makes it a movie I can see over and over. I love R.G Armstrong's portrayal of Bob Ollinger as a religious zealot. Not a long scene but superbly done. Also, the scene was Chill Wills as Lemuel, a aging but colorful saloon owner, are enjoyable for me too. Music by the great Bob Dylan adds to it as well.

                      3. The Ballad of Cable Hogue.
Ok, I admit being a Peckinpah fan, but this movie is probably as non typical of any western, especially of it's day. Unique story line and a typically strong cast, like Sam was usually able to assemble back in his days.

                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ballad_of_Cable_Hogue

                      4. Breaker Morant.
I cannot begin to count the number of times I have seen this excellent Australian movie about 3 Australian soldiers who get court martialed for murder during the Boer War in South Africa back around 1900. It just does not get any better than the fine performances turned in by Jack Thompson and Edward Woodward in this movie.
                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaker_Morant_(film)

                      5. The Warriors. This cult classic is about a New York street gang from Coney Island who have to fight their way back home from the Bronx after the leader of the city's biggest gang, The Gramercy Riffs, is assassinated at a meeting of all the major gangs at a park in the Bronx. The Warriors are unjustly accused of being the killers and every gang in the city is after them. I saw this when it first came out in 1979 and enjoy watching it again off and on over the years since/.
                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Warriors_(film)

                      6. Extreme Prejudice.
This movie, also directed by Walter Hill, same as The Warrriors, is about a Texas Ranger and his childhood friend and now drug kingpin and the circumstances that lead up to their eventual showdown. The side story has a group of ex soldiers robbing the local bank and how they along with the two main characters all come together for the final showdown at the end. The film ends with a massive gun battle in a Mexican town pitting 5 of the ex soldiers against dozens of the drug lord's personal army. In this aspect, Hill pays homage to The Wild Bunch and Peckinpah, which also ended with a huge gun battle between 4 of the Bunch and hundreds of Mexican soldiers.  I really liked Rip Torn's small role in this movie as the local sheriff.

                          • Here are a couple more movies I am highly partial to.

                            1. The Great Raid. Based on an actual event and follows history pretty closely. I have read about the actual Raid on Cabanatuan POW Camp on Luzon in WWII and this movie does a good job. Condensing something into a 132 minute movie will mean some details get omitted and the love story mixed in isn't actual from what I know. Anyway, this POW camp had survivors of the Bataan Death March and the Battle of Corregidor, just over 500 remaining. The US Army's advance from the landing at Lingayen Gulf was pretty rapid and high command was concerned the Japs would kill these prisoners as the US advance neared the camp. So 133 Rangers and 250 Filipino guerrillas worked together to attack the camp and free the prisoners. There were about 700 Jap soldiers stationed there at the time of the attack. The results of the attack were 511 POWs freed, 1 POW died after they were freed. 2 Rangers were killed and 4 wounded. 30 Filipinos were wounded. Jap casualties were 530. This was the most successful rescue mission in US military history and not much is really known about in the general public. The Rangers were able to go undetected about 30 miles behind Jap lines, which was crucial to the success of the mission, and there they met up with and combined with the Filipino guerrillas to carry it off. The Filipinos covered the flanks while the Rangers performed the actual rescue. They set up a cross fire at a bridge on the Cabu River, which they knew the Japs would attempt to cross once the firing started at the camp. Col Mucci, the commander of the Rangers said to guerrilla leader Capt Pajota, that the Japs would just go up the river and outflank them. Pajota said the Japs do not respect the Filipinos as fighters enough to do this. He was sure they would charge head on across the bridge. A demolition charge made the bridge impassable for tanks or trucks, and sure enough the Japs just charged across the bridge. They Filipinos had 2 machine guns set up, along with a motor and bazooka, and they just stacked those Japs up like cord wood on the bridge. After 3 waves of this, the Japs finally decided to go upstream and ford the river. The guerrillas and Mucci were ready and fired a flare when the Japs were midstream and cut them to ribbons again. It was beautiful. Seeing that 30 cal Browning water cooled in action is positively orgasmic to me.

Benjamin Bratt, Joseph Fiennes and James Franco are were great in their roles.

                            2. The Quiet American. There are two movies based on the Graham Greene book, which while fiction, does a good job of showing early US involvement in Vietnam. Do not waste a minute of your life watching the early version made in the late 50s, with Audie Murphy. It did not follow the book, twisted things to justify US presence in Nam, etc. The later movie, the good movie, is made in the about 2002 and stars Michael Caine and Brendan Fraser. A Vietnamese actress named Do Thi Hai Yen was the female lead and she is one of the most beautiful females I have ever seen in my life.

                            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Quiet_American

Greene died in 1991, but I believe he would have been pleased with the later movie's depiction of his book. I highly highly recommend both the book and the movie. Greene disavowed the 1958 movie version of his book BTW.

Same, same......loaded up my Mom's old Camaro back in HS and went to the drive-ins {people below 35 are saying HUH?? right now} with some buddies, smoked massive amounts of weed, drank a couple cases of Buds and thoroughly enjoyed this highly under-rated movie.....what I can remember of it of course.

Watched it with my boy when he was about 15 and he was indifferent ....I still enjoyed it. I guess this one did NOT stand the test of time as most people below 35 or so would say they have never heard of it, but man, for its time it was a classic.
