Alas CBGB was torn down. I remember the floor being so sticky with a decade if spilt beer that you had to walk like some guy on the moon.
Another punk club, Danceteria , had a bathroom so bad you had to piss from 5ft away, no idea what the girls did !

  One of the best bars in the world IMO, smelly bathrooms and sticky floors and all ....and remember, it all depends on your perspective;  I have been in nightclubs all around the world, from LA to NYC to Montreal, Prague and Budapest to Amsterdam, Vienna and Dublin ....   give me the tacky dives ANY DAY  compared to the trendy red- velvet -rope lines and people who think they are better than the rest of us, handing 100  Euro notes to some asswipe doorman just to be let inside and rub shoulders with the beautiful people; yuuuchhhh  


  Give me a skanky, dark metal club in some big city where cool people with no attitude and no cares about fashion congregate any day.....or a  shitty beach bar where I can wear flip flops and shorts and a t-shirt and drink 40 baht beer Changs while playing with rogue beach dogs until 5 or 6am; to you these places may be hell, but to a guy like me who happily refuses to ever grow up they are pure heaven.

I have trouble separating Michael's music & his personal life. He was obviously talented & could have done anything if his self esteem had been up to it.

As for great entertainers, this guy has an equal right to say he started it all - Little Richard.

I have 7 albums framed and hung in my living room all evenly spaced. It's a really great look, and chosing the 7 was very tough, had to find the combination of "great artwork" and "huge impact on my life".

I'll start by giving the 7 in the living room, beginning with:

1. Beatles - Abbey Road. First album I ever got (Christmas 3rd grade - gift from Mom). This is where my lifelong love of music started.

2. Kate Bush - The Dreaming. Her love of Pink Floyd was what fueled this album. So intense, she said she'd never repeat it. (She's only produced 4 albums in the 28 years since this album).

3. Porcupine Tree - Deadwing. Steven Wilson is a genius. His love of Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Marillion, Yes and Can is blended with a love of Swedish Death Metal to create a truly unique and futuristic version of Prog Metal. Amazing live.

4. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon. Along with Abbey Road, early Alice Cooper, and Black Sabbath, this is what I was listening to in Junior High and High School. I've never tired of it. Perhaps my favorite album of all time. I could have listed Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall as well but tried to stick to a single album by each artist.

5. Genesis - Seconds Out. My favorite live album of all time. All the classic early Gabriel tracks but with twin drummers and excellent vocals from Phil Collins back when he was still a novelty (a singing drummer). When Steve Hackett left the magic died for me.

6. King Crimson - Red. The birth of prog metal. This is one of the most beautiful, artistic and heavy "prog rock" albums of all time. Fripp disbanded the group before it was actually released, and retreated to a monastery for a time to prepare for the oncoming future. Crushing, brutal, majestic, melodic... this album has it all. As Altamont was for the hippies, this album was for the prog rock movement, signaling the end of one era and the beginning of the next.

7. Marillion - Afraid of Sunlight. If you've only heard the Fish era Marillion, you've not heard Marillion. A fan since day one, they're still my favorite band and they actually are getting BETTER with each album, even after 30 years. I'd put "Marbles" from 2005 on my top 10 albums of all time but chose this because it has a better cover. Mystical stuff. Like some deranged lovechild of The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Radiohead.
