That's not a question for Yanks...Thirty-seven of fifty states have the death penalty as well as the federal government and the military...So, if you don't want to die, you gotta pick the state you commit your murder in with some care...

a poll done in 2009 in britain had 54% wanting the death penalty bringing back,i too agree that britain has gone too far and that hanging should be brought back,my only worry would be miscarriages of justice.

                No...That was a bad joke...

For 2008, per 100,000 people, the average Murder Rate per of Death Penalty States was 5.2, while the average Murder Rate of States without the Death Penalty was 3.3

Lethal injection is actually said to be alot worse than hanging. They give you 3 drugs and 1 of them is a muscle relaxant which I thought was to make it as painless as possible, but its actually to stop the muscle to control your breathing.

The Uk would never be able to bring in the death penalty Allstar cause no EU member state can sentence people to death. I think thats one of the reasons/excuses they wont let Turkey join us in all the multi cultral fun we have in Europe.

The question which comes to my mind here is - would they be executed in order to punish them or to prevent them from committing future crimes? I don't think that we can say, no matter, just string them up.

From the criminals you mentioned, I only know of Josef Fritzl who unfortunately is one of my country fellows. What he did is beyond human comprehension and for me almost impossible to imagine, but as there is no way he can repeat his crime, I do think that spending the rest of his life in prison will be more of a punishment than just turning off his lights. This way he will have to "live" with his crime and the consequences for his remaining days.

For some the death penalty would actually be the easy way out and some do try to commit suicide once caught and imprisoned - Jack Unterweger was one of them who supposedly killed a number of prostitutes back home some 10-15 years ago.

My next question would be, if we bring back the death penalty, why not let them commit suicide? Do we just want to get rid of them or do we want to control how it happens?

In general I am against the death penalty but in some single cases where one knows that this person will continue to be a serious threat and there is absolutely no doubt about his/her guilt, I might reconsider ...

What provokes 'outrage' in some countries is simply a way of life in other countries.

Were any children physically hurt by Glitter? No. Does this happen a million times a day in Cambodia? Yes.

If you hang Glitter you have to hang a million adult males in Cambodia.

Get off your high horse, moron and see the big picture.

I don't believe in the death penalty. I think it's not a deterrent to criminal behavior. Lifelong rehabilitation, education, and labor are far more reasonable. Believe it or not, but the death penalty is also more expensive than life in prison when appeals are factored in. Lawyers and court costs are expensive!

Death penalty is OK with me, but lethal injection is more humane than hanging IMO.
