Very simple, for those of you lucky enough to live in a civilized country i.e. the EU, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc would you trade your health system for the system in place in the U.S. ?

The United Kingdom's much maligned National Health Service is ok so far as I am concerned.....it's just a shame that economic immigrants & unemployable dossers place such a huge burden on it
Waiting lists grow longer therefore many of us earning an honest living pay high health insurance just to give us the option of going private should the unfortunate need arise.

I think the NHS is fantastic but at times a bit badly run. My GF is a nurse and you should hear some of the horror stories she comes home with. I still have private anyway (payed for by myself) just incase. If it's a minor thing I don't mind the NHS but if it's something seroius it's nice to know it can be taken care of quickly.Beer Baron

As an Aussie who lived in the UK last year I was surprised how well the NHS worked. I was working there and therefore paying taxes but didn't expect to see the Doc for free as I'm not a citizen. I was dumbfounded that everything was for free and no questions asked. Great system.
Australia's system has been eroded and there aren't many free Doctors left. The UK system I think is better.
NZ doesn't have free healthcare, much like US.dreaming about LOS again

this is very much what is wrong with the uk NHS,can i just walk into any other place and get free medical............mostly flat fuckin no!
somebody somewhere paid high taxes for your treatment, its why the cost of living in the UK is out of control, its all fucked up.nobody should get med treatment unless they pay for it or show uk citizenship..........simple.
i injured my back in april, ive paid for my own painkillers and had to pay private fees to an osteopath because i needed fast help and treatment for severe pain, which left me unable to work, did i get adequete help from NHS.........no ,its was 4 months before i got to see a consultant in spinal, then another 2 months before i got referred to a physio for treatment,a fuckin disgrace is what i call that, left in terrible pain and unable to work no income and all the dr could do was offer me morphine, useless.i suggest if you get ill in the uk,its best if you would plan it and give the doctors some notice beforehand, kind of like a holiday really, get your planning right and it will be fine...............considering how many billions this cost the uk working man every year....yes it works of course it does but how well is another matter ................rant overrobbo

(robbo @ Nov. 08 2009,00:08) BTW i paid shit loads of tax last year is that what i paid for?
You can argue all day about how right or wrong it is - but most just deal with it and work out whats best for them. i.e if your a roofer - and get a bad back - you cant work - so you need to consider insuring against such a situation - this is nothing new - low cost products have been around for 20 years at least.
