  • Hmmm I'll have to talk to my accountant at Lehman Brothers about that.

    • (Snick @ Mar. 31 2010,09:50) Class 'B' shareholders have to sit in a small room outside the party and drink from plastic cups.
I'll take the Class B shares and hang around outside for when the LBs leave the meeting, then I won't have to pay barfine for them.

        • (manarak @ Mar. 31 2010,07:11) congrats !

          I got a hot advice: google !

          yes I know... again.

But look at what they are doing.
Google will soon control the whole digital world - and I'm not only talking about the internet. They will soon go into communications, electronic devices (phones/handhelds), navigation,
hosted applications (ASP), and soon they will propose enterprise systems, dominate ecommerce, and there already is a "google bank".

I think google has the clear potential to become 10 times bigger than it is today.
I hate to make a serious comment again (Snicks digression and all your replies is actually way more fun!) but to reply to Manarak - YES!

I was torn in my most recent investment between 4 targets:

          more Ford
          Google
          Pepsi
          McDonalds

I settled on buying more Ford but Google was a very close second. I'll probably pile into that later this summer if I get another lump to put away.

Of course all the money invested will eventually be used to fund my retirement in LOS, which is a long way of saying it'll go for barfines.

          • ok, back to serious
I bought AAPL and EWY a year and half ago, and did great on both.

Now, I don't know what to buy. The market has recovered (ahead of the real economy - some would say), and I do not see any great bargains out there.
Lately my TF has been doing well, it tracks the Thai Market, its under $11 (bought at $10) and should be $17-20 based on valuations (simply look at what TF was long time ago when SET was close to 800 back then), but this is Thailand and everyone knows how risky things are. Still its $11, that could go down to $8 if politics really fuck things up here, OR it could go to $17-20+ if thing settle down, economy grows, no one dies, etc...
Since the upside is bigger than the downside I might invest more in TF.

Otherwise, AAPL - great run, but its gotta end; GOOG - great company, but too hard to figure out where it will make more money and what fights they will get into next; China - bubble will pop someday, but who knows when a month or a decade; commodities - see China; Brazil -- I likey, maybe I'll put some money into a ETF; Russia - thanks, been mugged before; Indonesia - Maybe
except for a few key stocks, like AAPL - I'm investing outside the USA via ETFs

But is someone gives me $50,000 -- I'll open a LB club

err... did you read in what fields they go?
they will make shitloads of money, because they will control the informations and communications markets:
              - internet
              - internet advertising
              - internet videos
              - internet TV
              - internet phone
              - internet browsing
              - handheld devices
              - hosted applications

and I think they will go into:
              - internet payments
              - virtual credit cards
              - navigational/GPS systems loaded with their geographical info from google maps and google earth
              - etc etc etc...

The possibilities are endless, and they got the cash, the people and the computing power.
Microsoft is second, but they are years behind.

If I was google's chief strategist, I would now hesitate between buying Paypal incl. Ebay and building something better than Paypal + Ebay.

Pick the shares up for 46.5p...

                • I think Ford is a really solid long term hold from here as is Microsoft & Cisco. I screwed myself by not buying Citigroup last year @ $1, was too scared after losing 40% of my life savings in the preceding weeks. It has quadrupled since then......

Thinking of buying some utility stocks, they pay 4-5% interest on the face value & as of yet haven't been part of the market surge, as the recession recedes energy/water demands will increase.

                      • But on a serious note, BskyB is a great investment for 2010. Very little debt and no bond maturities for about 5/6 years. Their in a stronger position coming out of the global downturn then going into it and with 3D taking off now more than ever they seem to be the leaders in it so far. Over 10 million customers in the UK and they are getting bigger in the Broadband and phone market using BT lines. 2.5 million broadband customers compared to zero just 3 years ago. They posted a 9% revenue growth in 2009 aswell. Not to many UK or Ireland companies can claim that.

                        • BSkyB is still a gamble. FreeView is becoming increasingly better and the government have legislation seriously clipping the wings of BSkyB forcing them to share their programs (especially sports) with other providers.

I rate them as a 'HOLD.'

                          • I bought BskyB about 2 months ago. Another one I got was Aegis Group. Its a global media and marketing company. There will more than likely be a merger between another similar company called Havas this year or early next year. The chairman of Havas is one of frances richest men and holds about 35% of havas and has 25% equity in Aegis Group. I could see Havas merging with Aegis to compete with the larger companies. (I hope)
