However, I focus my energy into Local Politics. Local stuff effects me the most.
I trust my goverment to represent me in the world stage of politics.
Though I don't always agree with my current or past Presidents, I do trust that they do the best with what they have in a Self Serving kind of way.

Yes, I care alot about people all over the world, but I need to give my time and energy to my Local neighborhood, Why ?

I'm sitting here watching Fox News Network and Rudi Backtar was showing the cartoons in which they show in hezbollah/Lebanon for the Kids to watch.

The cartoons are of suicide bombers killing Isralies.

Teaching children to kill people via cartoons is just flat out evil.

It's an easy gut reaction to say that Arabs are scum that fuck camels up the ass and should be nuked.  But are the Arabs inherently evil?

Let's look at the WW2 Asian theatre (Hitler makes things too complicated).

Were the Japs evil?  Was their government evil?  They are now part of the worldwide western alliance.

We need peace.  We need a win-win sitaution becuase temporary peace by force alone will not stop terrorism and a hundred years from new technology will have advanced to a level which will make terrorists trully dangerous.

Yes, force alone resolved WW2 but things are different 60 years later.
Force alone will lead to more New Yorks, Madrids, and Londons.

The oil runs out in 25-50 years and Copper, Zinc, and almost every other resource you can name is gone in about 25 years.

Also fresh water is the biggest problem to come. In China, India , S America  cheap water pumps are sucking out water faster than nature can put it back.
Also in Israel this is a growing problem.

(1.) Semitic is a linguistics and etymological term.

It refers to language groups that come from the Semetic base. In the same way English, French, and spanish all come from the Latin base.

The only two surviving Semitic languages today are Arabic and Hebrew. To say something is Semitic would be refering to both, and to say Anti-Semitic would mean you were against both (presumably) Arabs (speaking arabic), and Jews (presumably speaking Hebrew).

To say that an Arab or Arabic speaking Muslim is Anti-Semitic is absurd. Or no more so than to say a Jew is Anti-Semitic if he hates Arabs (or Arabic speakers).

(2.) In relation to Stogie's original post, it's not too far out to say that no news is good news. By that I mean I quit reading or watching news about 5 years ago, I scan the daily headlines when I log on each day. I may actually click and read one full story a day- and it is usually because of something weird, not world events.

What I have found is that the sky didn't fall without me knowing about it. I am much less stressed out than I was 5 years ago. And I don't really feel that out of touch. In any case, I still know more than those who "keep up" withthe news, and I can deconstruct them in debate at the drop of a hat.

Science, human nature, and general principles don't change that much.

(3.) That having been said... I've always felt supportive of Israel and Jews in general. I can say of every Jew I've ever met (and I realize this would be bordering on stereotyping, except that I'm simply reporting my actual one-on-one experiences) that each is a little neurotic, but have otherwise all (but 1) been good, decent, smart, funny people that I would trade for any of the hundreds of others jerks I've known.

To put it another way, if I were asked in some ridiculous test to pick a "race" or people to live on an island with, I'm thinking maybe only thai's (if all female) would come ahead. Even my own white-bread anglo-saxon kin prettu much suck next to the Jewish contingent I've encountered.

(4.) I'm fascinated when people hate Israel or blame Israel. Whenever I see Israel attack, I'm always thinking "What took you so long!?"  In my opnion, they have always exercised extraordinary restrain in the face of non-stop attacks against their country.

I have a friend who's mom hates me. His little brother used to punch, hit, kick and pester him at all times. He would hit his big brother (my friend) and immediately begin crying... which is all his mom would see. She would then fuss at my friend. After seeing this about the hundredth time, I just punched "Bobby" right int he face when he put the crying act on. Both my friend and his mom looked at me with their mouth wide open. I said "Ma'am, I've watched this for long enough. 'Bobby' is a little shit, and he needs to learn that there are consequences to being a little shit."

Hezbollah, Hamas, and these other groups (the term "Palestinian" has no meaning) are little shits. They have nothing. They have several thousand years of stone age, nomadic lifestyle in their culture. All they know is to rape the land and move on. It is only after Isreal took shitty land and made it fertile, and built an economy on it that anyone wanted to claim to be a "Palestinian", and therefore get "their land" back.

   I'm all for Israel bombing whoever they feel neccessary to the stone age (some more). Israel has the greatest intelligence service and the greatest Air Force in the world. They don't miss. If they bomb something, it's because they know what they are doing.

Israelis  spent generations building and creating something. If any of these other countries did the same, they would have indoor plumbing by now.

(5.)  This is not about oil, for two reasons. None of the countries we have mentioned are key oil producers. Secondly, the price of oil is primarily determined by demand. The current cause of the increase in oil prices is the economic surge in China and India, allowing hordes of people to now own cars for the first time.

Here in the US, most people (including the news) have the same "It's all about us" attitude. It doesn't even occur to them that there are causes outside of our borders.

Supply does have some play in gas price, but their is no shortage of oil that anyone can point to. There HAS been a shortage in refinaries, which is the chief problem with the US oil market. Politicians and enviro-weenies have badgered oil copmanies for so long that they stopped making new refineries. Now the oil companies can't keep up with the rate of converting the incoming oil into gasoline. There are barrels backing up at the docks and refineries because we don't have the facilities to convert it fast enough. This is the chief cause of US Gas prices.

Even at that, gas prices in the US at least are just now catching up to where they were in the 80's AFTER you adjust for inflation. People cry like babies about $2.89 gas, but adjusted for inflation it's as good a price as we've had in decades- since Carter's policies created gas shortages.  

Price serves many functions, one od which is to allow people to self ration. Since we keep buying gas (and my family is planning a cross state trip in the SUV next weekend) then obviously the price of gas isn't too high.

(6.) Since it's not about oil, I can tell you what it is about. Jealousy. The Arabs have hated the Jews for thousands of years, long before anyone had thought of the internal combustion engine and had no use for the oil that would stay buried under sand for generations.

People like to say "The Arabs and the Jews having been fighting for centuries".  There is some truth to this, but it is more accurate to say the Jews have been slaughtered, exiled, and attacked by Arabs as well as Germanics (that's all the rest of us) for centuries.

For them to finally be given a land of their own, I say good for them. I would rather they were given Kansas or something, it would save everyone a lot of trouble. But that is past. What is the legitimate definition of a nation-state?  I can say that is one of the few questions I don't have a good answer for. I have yet to meet anyone else that has a good answer either.

If anyone thinks Israel doesn't deserve their nation, I offer you to consider your own nations origins and decide how morally pure you feel.  I'm OK with Israel, because they were given a shit heap that no one else wanted, and godammit they made something worthwile out of it.

This is not a land that was hotly contested before, and there was no such thing as a "Palestinian" living in some country called "Palestine" before Israel was settled. The Arabs that lived in the area before were nomadic tribes. Their whole culture was based simply upon robbing the next band that you came across of whatever they had accumulated.

I'm not saying arabs suck... I'm saying these Arabs at this time have no right to revise history. Arabs in the past created breakthroughs in algabra and math (creating the number zero), agriculture, sanitation, mass produced paper, optics, navigation, recording history, and a whole host of other things.

They could have chosen to also become industrious, following Israels example. Instead they have wasted almost 60 years being bitter and wanting two things only, to take what Israel has created (not understanding that it will fall apart as soon as they take control over it) and to kill Jews.

I guess I'm just brainwashed by the Jewsih controlled media and the Jewish controlled politicians, but it seems like a pretty clear case to me. I'm for the people who have been kicked around the Middle East and Europe for generations and have managed to make something out of a sandhole.

I say "Go Israel" and good luck with that new parking lot.

i really don't understand why so many people defend Israel's actions. one reason given was because they've met israeli's who were nice people? that's wierd. It's like saying you defend the Iraq war because some of your friends are from the U.S.

Hizbollah didn't even exist until around 20 years ago when Israel invaded lebanon and started blowing up buildings and people. It was formed as a reaction to Israels invasion of Lebanon the first time. It could be argued that Israel is more responsible for Hizbollah than Iran or Syria. a lot of these fighters were probably children when Israel invaded their country the first time.

And now, they're creating a whole new generation of people who will want to destroy Israel in Lebanon, as they do daily in the Palestinian territories.

we should defend Israel if it's actions are responsible, not because they dress like us and speak English well. Their actions are irresponsible. It makes our societies look corrupt to continue blindly supporting them, while at the same time we'll use any excuse to take out a regime in a country that doens't give us what we want. this fuels animosity toward our countries also, and doesn't do much for the future of the world.

the reason there are so many civilian casualties is because israel drops bombs on them. thats the bottom line. killing more people hasn't helped israels cause at all. it just empowers more extremists.

and israel isnt shy of using people as shields, putting them in the line of fire while they are being shot at or while they want to move into an area or house they thing is dangerous. this practice has been used quite frequently by the israeli army in the palestinian territories.

Think it's getting a bit too b/w here - from both sides. The near and middle east situation is completely fucked up and messy since more than 50 years with so many parties and money involved, the people are emotionally overheated on both sides, the people on the joystick are pretty rational strategists though. I can't imagine any possible solution for a serious peace agreement
.... and thinking of all that I can understand Stogies position better and better. People all around the world should be a bit more pissed with ALL the parties involved and not trying to find pathetic excuses for one of them. We are all living on the edge to a global war situation since decades, because those bloody dickheads are simply unable to come to an agreement. This is fucking ridiculous!!!!

Why don't you all just get fucking lost down there - ALL OF YOU!!!
If it's really only about land then I'm pretty sure we'll find some nice peace of territory, double the size they have now, in the middle of Russia with a lot of woods and fresh air, for everybody between the Red Sea and the Persian gulf!
