I usually say stick to your guns on this sort of stuff, but with Chinese New Years being about family and harmony, I give deference to my elders (and I suggest you do too) on this day.

Honestly, it might be best to not wear makeup either. The transition will be noticed even with your minimalist approach. So, it might be wise to reduce the shock value as much as you can to ease everyone in your family into the idea that change for you is a good thing. Be conservative and they will accept you as a young lady.

While I am personally very fond of your short black dress, it would not be appropriate for this occasion.

If most of your family dont know then it could be best to keep the family and harmony feel at its best for the New year this time around. During the year you could slowly introduce them to the idea and visuals of being an attractive young lady..... and then next Chinese new year or next important family gathering, enter in a blaze of glory not shocking or offening anyone. Hopefully gaining full acceptance.
