One of the drawbacks in speaking fluent Thai is hearing them talk about me right in front of them and them not knowing I speak Thai. Sometimes is nice compliments but many times I wish I didn't understand them

It will help you out in some situations if you speak Thai well, but for the most part speaking Thai is not really a 'must' in Thailand. It's probably better not to know, but I have a feeling that as I'm a harmless person in the background most of the time they don't have much, if anything, to say about me.

I speak Thai very well, so I understand 80% to 90% of what's being said about me.

Thing is, most of the time, I just don't bother to listen.

One of the reasons I find the bar scene so boring is that many of the girls flitting about are cookie-cutter-copies of each other with the same petty concerns, trivial self-inflicted "problems", mundane interests, and inane "opinions" based entirely on superstitions and stereotypes.

bla-blah-bla-blah-"you butterfly"-bla-blah-blaah-"all farang like black girls"-blah-blah-zzzzzzz...

There are times when I just want to shout "Yah! Guess what?  I'm NOT Prince-fucking-Charming!  No shit!  You met me in a fucking GO-GO BAR, remember!?!?"

But really, what's the point.

Most Thai kids entering uni these days have what would pass for a 9th grade level education back home, and since they still live with mommy and daddy (and they've had a nanny wipe their ass every day since they were a babe), they've got a maturity level of the average 5th grader back home.  And that's the top tier group.

Many ladyboys (like many poor Thais) don't finish high school (they're lucky to finish 8th grade, and the average 4th grader back home would be the top of the class in a Thai 8th grade classroom).

Anyone who's ever given an extra baht to a cashier at 7-11 to make even change AFTER she's rung up the sale (watch her brain literally implode as she tries to add 259+1 and then subtract that from 300 in her head) , knows exactly what I'm talking about.

So quite frankly, why should I give two shits what they think??  

Give me someone of average intelligence, with a decent awareness of the world around them, some common sense, and a valid, original thought or two and I might put some value on what they say about me.

But if someone is just going to make a bunch of stupid assumptions about me based on out-dated stereotypes and gossip, then really, why should I bother to listen or respond to that crap.  If the sex is good, then I'll spend some time with her, but have a conversation?  Fuck no, I'd rather keep my sanity, please.

Not to sound too harsh, but there are times when it's hard to look at the bargirls as "people".  I mean with non-p4p girls it's a whole different crate of pineapples, but some of these go-go girls,...... yeeeeesh!  Could they get any dumber, lazier or less motivated?  If you want a chuckle, ask one of them what her "goals" are in life.

Pretty much none of the girls in the bar scene know I speak Thai.  I've never made a show of it, and not many girls have managed to bring up a topic that I'd actually want to talk about, so I get by on English mostly and throw in a few words of Thai here and there just to keep things rolling.

This usually means that when they're hanging out with their friends, they chatter on about their lives as if I'm not even there.  They assume I can't understand them so they don't guard their words at all. That's the reason that I said most guys who "fall in love" with ladyboys from the bars are "naive idiots".  If they only knew what was really going on, they'd be a little bit more cynical about any protestations of love from a bargirl/ladyboy.

Like someone else said, you're probably just better off not knowing.  Why spoil your fun with reality?

I've got a bunch of Thai ladyboy "friends", but all we do when we get together is fuck or eat.  That's pretty much it.  I'm not stupid enough to get them to con me into shopping or going to the discos (both of those equal "hey Mr. Wallet, pay for me and all of my friends"), which would be the only other activities they'd be interested in doing.

Now, on the other hand, I've got a couple of Filippina ladyboy friends and holy shit is it a world of difference.  We have actual conversations about movies, books, politics, life, goals, dreams, etc...  If they have an opinion, you bet I listen to it, because they've actually THOUGHT about their opinion (rather than just parroted it).

And, of course, I'm generalizing so there are plenty of exceptions to what I'm saying.  I'm sure a few guys who are dating those exceptions are going to get pissed at me, but really guys, you're the lucky few.  And you know damn well that you managed to find a diamond in a shit pit.  The rest of us poor sods have to muck about with vacant, airheaded girls whose main goals in life are: 1) to Eat, 2) to Gossip, 3) to Shop, 4) to Eat, 5) to Sleep, 6) to Create Chaos for the sake of it, 7) to Eat, 8) to Pose in front of a Mirror, 9) to Get High/Drunk, and 10) to Find some clueless fuckwit to pay for it all.

Like I said, you're just better off not knowing.

To be honest that was about spot on. I was in Thailand from November 2006 until August 2007 and have to agree, in reality who cares what they say. Most of them are just little kids in their heads and have the opinion that we are all easy mugs. Its there job and they all want to be top dog.

Yes i speak some Thai, do i tell them this. Not a chance, i enjoy listening to them take the mickey out of the punters with a big smile on there face and just as they get to the point of getting really bitchy i speak some thai to them. Its amazing how they are so nice afterwards to try and save some face.

At the end of the day we are paying them for there time, so i do take them out and have fun as well. A few drinks and a meal, spoil there friends and treat them like human beings, a few of them are now friends and i love thailand.

I have the joy of living just near to Phitsanulok and have to admit the girls out of the big cities are more friendly and less bitchy.

Ps But what do you expect when you get a posse of ladyboys together, its like the male ego thing of who has the biggest dick. With some ladyboys its about bragging about the money, boyfriend, walking atm or tight git they all just need to out doo each other

Doug I do get "pissed off" sometimes when people think I'm being "stupid" for getting involved with a "bar girl"
Spending a "few" hours or a "short time" with a girl "does not" mean you actually "KNOW" them
I think "ALL" the girls are "tarnished" with the same brush by some BM's which I do think is "wrong" as they have probaly "NEVER" met the girl in question or spent time a decent amount of time with her.

For example on my last trip it was my "intention" just to be a "butterfly"
It worked fine for the first 3 days as I would "NEVER" get "involved" emotionally with the 5 girls I slept with.

I did however meet a girl on my 4th night whom seemed "different" from the other's
She had been "working the bar" only 3 months so I guess she was "new" and "naive" to the game IMO and I did "click" with her from the start

After 2 nights with her I said I was going back to BKK for a couple of nights (this had been pre-arranged) but would come to see her on my return to Pattaya
Of course then I got the "Waterworks" and the "You forget me"
I thought to myself "Yeah" "Yeah" "Yeah" but I ended up taking her to BKK with me    and in all spent 15 nights with her

I was under no illusion that she actually "liked" me and that I was only an ATM for her, but "maybe" just "maybe"  feelings can change after that amount of time with someone.
She has told me so herself.

She didn't return to the bar when I returned to th UK and that's 5 months ago now and is living in Lampang
I have agreed to "take care" of her on the "condition" she does not return to the bar so yes I DO "sponsor" her but I'm "happy" with it.
If she does return the "sponsorship" stop's end off

We are all different at the "end of the day", I prefer the GFE, other's like to "Butterfly"
