Sometimes. It is good to have some actual conversation sometimes. LB or GG I find it extremely difficult to communicate anything beyond basic stuff with Thais. For Doug's comment which applies to GGs as much as LBs and to a certain extent (sweeping generalisation coming....) Thai society in general....I don't speak as fluently as Doug does (I'm more around the 40-50% mark) but I generally understand enough to get the gist, and the vast majority is mindless gossip that would put the blue rinse brigade on bingo night to shame.... As much as we'd like to think we are the main topic of conversation (good or bad) it's rarely the case unless they are bragging about how much they managed to fleece from you, and even then it's only a fleeting mention..... AFAIK most won't tell their mates if you are "kee niaw" cos that's a loss of face......

Point being (and I know it's already been made but...) who gives a fuck anyway? I always used to think being called "good man" or "jai dii" was a compliment until I realised it was just Thai for fucking mug......... Regardless of what they think of you, unless you're a complete they'll go with you again and again if that's what you want....

PS those that trying to learn a bit of Thai should bear in mind that given a large number of sex workers come from Isaan, they often speak their local dialect which is pretty much the same as Laos....

PPS BG/LB....infact most working class Thais really fucking hate it when farang can speak a bit of Thai....so it's always best to keep schtum if you do, you'll invariably learn much they don't want you to know.....
